Hi all! I recently managed to get a 6900 XT and I'm getting absolutely awful performance out of it.

My second monitor occasionally flickers and has lines halfway down it (turning it off and on usually fixes this for a bit).

I get extremely poor performance in multiple games, a couple to name are CoD: Black Ops Cold War (I have to have all graphics settings on medium to be able to get 60 fps at 4k) and Monster Hunter: World (I also have graphic settings on around medium-high and only get 30fps most of the time).

My motherboard has the latest bios. I have the latest drivers from AMD. I've used DDU in safe mode to remove all previous drivers from Nvidia/etc.

This pastebin is my dxdiag, please let me know if there's any additional info you guys need that might help!

Whew! What's not wrong?

First make sure RAM is installed in slots a2-b2 and then enable XMP/D.O.C.P in BIOS.

What cooler are you using for CPU?

Really need to see in-game temps. Download and install MSI Afterburner and enable the overlay.

Was this a brand new build? If so, was this a new Windows install?

GPU Stress Test - https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/55604981
GPU temp never went above 82 C
CPU temp never went above 78 C (typically around 70)

Using a Corsair H80i

I can install MSI Afterburner and still try to get ingame temps if you want.

RAM is a1-b1, should I switch to a2-b2, if so may I ask why?

C:\Users\laior>wmic MEMORYCHIP get BankLabel,DeviceLocator,Capacity,Tag
BankLabel Capacity DeviceLocator Tag
P0 CHANNEL A 17179869184 DIMM 1 Physical Memory 1
P0 CHANNEL B 17179869184 DIMM 1 Physical Memory 3

XMP was disabled, is now enabled. (Must've gotten turned off during bios update).

Isn't a new build, just new GPU. I got better performance out of my 1080Ti. I didn't reinstall Windows, and would prefer to avoid it if possible, but I'll do it if that's the last option.

Also thanks for trying to help!!

do what drivinfast247 said, did you do DDU on your old drivers before installing your new ones?

Yep, as you'll notice I mentioned in the first post.

My motherboard has the latest bios. I have the latest drivers from AMD. I've used DDU in safe mode to remove all previous drivers from Nvidia/etc.

I just ran a session with MSI Afterburner and am getting typically around 77 C ingame

Yes. Install them in a2-b2. Because that's how it works. I don't know the technical reason.

That 120mm AIO isn't really the greatest. In fact, no better than a low end air cooler.

Based on the motherboard manual they are installed in A2/B2 already.

That may be but my CPU isn't getting excessively hot either way.

Make sure your motherboard BIOS is the most recent version available for it. Also, reinstall the most up to date AMD chipset drivers.

https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-socket-am4/x570

So I had the most up to date BIOS until they apparently released a new update a few days ago so I installed that and the AMD chipset drivers (thank you, I didn't know that was a thing). The combo seems to have fixed my issues. Thanks a ton!!!

Hi all,
I'm having similar issues to the above where the GPU isn't performing as well as I feel it should (i.e. Rainbow Six siege at 1440p with settings maxed out flutters between 170fps (set as the max, believe it does go above 200) but when the game gets going it goes to as low as 125-135fps), similar to the above the system is the same just a new GPU, I've tried the above (reinstall drivers, ensure BIOS is most up to date version), even tried switching PCIE3 slots to see if 16x vs 8x would make a difference (no real change noticed).
User bench shows the 6900 xt isn't performing as well as it should be
https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/37928539

So is there anyway of telling if its just the GPU is underperforming, or if its more to do with the other hardware being too out of date? (i5 3570k OC to 4ghz, and 16gb DDR3 ram at 1600mhz)

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Please start your own thread. Thank you.

BTW, yes your CPU/mobo/DDR3 memory is holding back the performance of the 6900XT. You have a serious mismatch in performance potential here.
