Maybe I'm just kaded.. but when a company says "This will cost the same as the competition." The best thing that crosses my mind is that it might be a tad better, and maybe we could see a few price cuts.

I certainly have never thought that it could mean "OMG they love me and want to give away 50% more performance for the same price as the other guy."

They want to make money, period, if they release it at those prices it is because that is the price they figure will make them the most money. So it either performs at that level, they figure ATI will drastically cut prices before they manage to launch, or something is funny with the stock levels.

Probably true, I'm going off of Shane's "inside info" which as I figured was probably BS. And I was also justing posing some thoughts as to what it would mean if he was right, which I doubt he is. But like I said, I would welcome just straight price reductions anyways, because it would make things cheaper for me 😀

The one year warranty , take on Fermi mentioned here http://www.shanebaxtor.com/2010/02/22/gtx-400-series-1-year-warranty-an-issue/ is something I didn't see coming from anywhere. Where does this leave XfX, do they offer their warranty on all American video cards sold ?

OMG. 1 year warranty....my mouse has 2 year warranty.... :pfff:

I still think the 480 is going to be $500-$550 MSRP, no matter what Shane says. If it is $450 and beats the 5870 by a fair margin, I'll be floored that nVidia would do such a thing...

About where I have prices too; I'm betting $399/$499 at launch if ATI hasn't lowered its prices yet.

Remember, ATI's prices are an X-factor; if they stay as high as they currently are, NVIDIA can justify higher launch prices for their cards.

The card is released on March 27th.....

But it depends what "available" means to you. In mass quantities... May, in limited quantities... then yeah.. April.

If everything was going to plan, they would have bin able to sell at 600-700$ at least in the beginning, if they where first to marked with products. The timing is perhaps not everything, but surely something. But that is an oportunity that is gone now. Now, the HD 5670 is a card that the critics say, is not a real gaming card. Now, that is their opinion. You can bye one this month at 90$ and next month one more, and run crossfire, and have a lot of fun doing it, witout any overspending. But to be honest, I don't think they are cheep. But that's the way it is.

So, ATI had limited quantities because of TSMC, got their cards out almost six months ago, TSMC has announced several times their 40nm is running fine, why wont these cards be available in mass quantities by the end of March?
No excuses anymore

I don't understand they set a release date but no real specs info or prices - what are we to do here just second guess if its worth waiting 2 months :S

The official twitter anouncement:

^^^ That's pretty inaccurate. There should be a big hole in the middle of the case that is smoking with heat from the 30 inch prototype card sticking out of it.

I want to see it's big brother that is 2 chips 14 inchs long 3 slots wide and takes 1000w of power and can be your very on gpgpu with very little promise in games but good luck getting your FORTRAN code running on it that should be fun.

Larabee: Hello Fermi.
Fermi: Hello Larabee, what are you doing here?
Larabee: I came to pick you up for special ED school.
Fermi: Dad, what's going on?
nVidia: Shut up and get on the van.

I'm no joke specialist, but... LET THEM ROLL FOLKS!

Cheers! xD!
