Gift Ideas for an EE grad

I have a friend soon to be graduating as an EE major this semester. I'd like to get him something unique to his learned skills and passion, but not being an EE guy, I need some help from some fellow EE grads or students.

I have thought about getting him an Arduino starter kit, but an FGA of some coolness would be up his ally. And my budget is $300.

Give him loads of transistors, resistors, capacitors, diodes, and inductors with some copper clad. Have him build a compete logic system project. Or, give him a shoot load of silicon cells and have him develop his own solar panels to power the house,( heck, cheap energy for a grad would be great.)

I think he has done the first suggestion. Being a dirt poor grad, i'm hoping to get him a gadget that he can't afford but would like to hack, like a FPGA - (damn those are expensive)
