Hello,

I have a Gigabyte 8I845GVM-RZ mainboard... it had 256 DDR-400 RAM, Kingstone... I bought 512 Hynix. The board has 2 DIMM slots, in the first slot was the 256 Kingstone module and in the secord the Hynix 512 module.

The board was only using the RAM in the first slot. I took out the 256 Kingstone and put the 512 Hynix in the first slot, it was working with 512 RAM, if I added the 256 Kingstone in the second slot, it was only working with 512 RAM…

I went to the store where I bought the memory, with my 256 Kingstone and the 512 Hynix that I bought from them… They had some Epox motherboard on witch they put the 2 memory’s and it was working with 768 MB of memory… They told me to update my bios.

When I came home, put the 256 Kingstone in the first slot… the motherboard was not starting… nothing appearing on the screen… dead… the pc-speaker was not making any noise, no beeping… I’ve restarted the bios, took out the battery for 30 seconds, with the power cable unplugged, like it said in the manual… but still it’s not doing anything…. It has everything onboard, sound, video, ethernet… I only have a modem on it… some Intel 536EP I think…

Could you give me some ideas?
Is the board damaged?

It sounds like your motherboard isn’t getting power. Is your PS working? When you turn on the computer does the fan in the power source start to spin? Does any fan move? If not the problem is probably with your power source. If not your power source then you’ve might have just knocked something out of position while taking out the ram. Unplug all the power cabling and then reinstall the cables.
