GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 Rev. 3.3 - compatable RAM?

I did not bother to read all the preceeding posts. In case there is still any question, however, I will say this:
I *just* bought a DS3 from newegg. I received a revision 3.3 board (I actually don't know the bios revision, but it's probably f10 or something), and memory that is not rated for 1.8 is working in it right now. Specifically, I purchased this kit:

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231065

and it works like a charm. It is also, as I understand it, the "micron-d" ram or whatever that people are talking about.

Thank you guys so much for this thread, espcially Jake_Barnes. I just fired up my 965p-DS3 rev 3.3 with a e6400 and the exact ram you were talking about Barnes. I wish I could tell you some experiences, but I'm still waiting for xp to format my drive. For some reason my first attempt failed (cuz i used quick format?).

I was very scared on the first 2 pages or so, with all the Micron complaints because I read in an egg review that the orange racing stripe Geil 2x1gb ram WAS micron. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ortField=0&SummaryType=ALL&Pagesize=100&Page=

Other Thoughts: These ARE in fact Micron D9GMH chips, which are excellent quality and OC to 1100 and remain rock stable (depending on your motherboard), and I popped off the heat spreaders to see for myself and they are. Imagine that, paying this price for this kind of quality. No wonder they're out of stock. Grab them RIGHT when they get in stock.

They are a GREAT deal, right now $112. I haven't brought them down to 4-4-4-12 yet. waiting to install windows before any o/c. I don't know much about the numbers of overclocking yet, but from what I've read here it seems you were concerned that the high performance ram that wanted 1.9v+ would be limited and perhaps crashtastic if the board demanded 1.8. I think that with the new BIOS updates they have fixed the issues, that's why it's so nice to buy the DS3 this late in the game. The kinks were worked out.

I would stay FAR away from the rev 1.3. If anything, at least with the rev 3.3 you can find tons of info online (like i did with this thread!).

Bonus tip: you dont need a floppy boot disk to update the BIOS from stock to F11. Just drop the BIOS files (after rar extraction) on a FAT16/32 formatted usb thumb drive and stick it in. Hit END during post and you go into Qdrive. It gives you options on where to find the bios file. just go through all the options till you find one. boom new BIOS! no need for a bootable disk.

again, thank you so much for this thread! i registered just to post this.

idk, i was planning on getting the Kingston Value Ram ddr2 667 1.8v kit for $90 to work with a DS3

Then again I wasnt planning on OCing very far.

I believe that this still is an issue though. I would only buy ram for a P965 board that I heard from someone with that exact ram and boards.... that it works *poor grammar*

but you get the idea.

good luck finding that ram, be sure to get back to us on how it works

so far so good. i bumped the orange geils down to 4-4-4-12 and im now installing games in windows. so you can at least get around without crashes. will update when i o/c.

got 2 GB Ballistix Trace DDr2 800hz for $160 at ZipZoom with my DS3.3. Booted up on first POST. will mess with timings tonight! Btw, the LEDS are beautiful, lites up the MB but not in ricer way!

Hi everyone, I'm new to posting on the forum but have been creeping it for a while.

I'm building a new system around this mobo as well. I've been looking at this OCZ memory to go with it:
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=010870&cid=RAM.835

I see a few people used memory with native voltages higher than 1.8 and the DS3 let you boot to change the bios settings. Was just curious if anyone was able to do this with OCZ memory specifically?

Also, can anyone tell what the difference between that platinum memory linked above and this one is:
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=010267&cid=RAM.835

Can't seem to find anything on the OCZ site between the 22gk and 2gk, I figure one must be newer than the other?

I live in Canada, and want to buy all my parts in person so my options are a little more limited, but this OCZ memory seems really good for the price.
