I want to know if Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 OC 2GB GDDR5 will work good with my old pc
Intel core 2quad Q8200
-motherboard EP43-DS3L
- PSU HEC 500W
- RAM 4G bus 800
monitor 23 resolution 1920*1080
and which better Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 OC 2GB GDDR5 or HD 7870 OC 2GB GDDR5

as far i know.. A GTX 660 will bottleneck on a 2.4GHz Core 2 Quad. and i think you are not going to get more than 20-25 fps in some cpu intensive games on your 23"monitor.

you should buy a new i5, a good motherboard and some DDR3 RAM.

and yes it will consume more power.

all of us read the part about buying a decent card and then upgrading the other components later. he just wants to avoid get bottlenecked. thats why i suggest those cards, i am not forcing him to buy a 6870 and not to buy a 660 just because he will get bottlenecked with a 660 or 7870.

Yes this is a really good CPU for gaming. But you also need to change motherboard + RAM.

Also be careful with your power supply. Make sure it has an 8-pin CPU power connector. If it doesn't you might have to replace your PSU too. Same thing applies to the new video card you're going to buy, look at the requirements and make sure it has enough 6-pin PCI-E power connectors to power your card.

I don't remember reading what your current card is. so I'd have to say card.

the components listed would be a good upgrade also ( choose what board you think would do you best ) but trying to play games on Intel on board graphics totally blows and would bring no pleasure to you.

my sapphire hd 4870 toxic 1g has problem and now use geforce 8600 gts Temporarily

It will not work near as fast as with an I5 cpu. You should have at least a 3.0GHz I5 or better although an I3 might be fine until you run into quad core gaming (dual core with HT does not count).

I uprgarded from a QX6850 3.0GHz to an I5 Ivy Bridge @3.0GHz to be able to get the GFXC to run decently. The core 2 quad choked it but the I5 made a large differance to where I can get from 60 to over 100FPs in most games on max settings. Frames are going to drop bellow that in some rare instances.

No. I think you will run into the same problem. The 600 series Kepler are more cpu hungry plus these cards where made in 2012 as opposed to the core 2 quad that came out somewhere like 2005/2006. Sorry to say, but you are in need of an upgrade. You need DDr3 ram,, a seven series mobo H77/Z77 or an AMD mother board at the very minimum to upgrade to a new cpu.

If you can't afford at least a quad core I5/I7 , then go for and AMD bulldozer and use the savings for a nicer Card like an Nvidia 670 or AMD Radeon 7950. You don't have to blow your account to get good performance.

In my experience, the 500ti is an alright card, but you always feel like you cheaped out and should have went better. I would strongly suggest a 570 but a 560ti would be fine to.

It would, however the 560ti/570 would smoke it. It all depends on what you want to do. If you are playing games, the obvious choice would be a 560ti or 570. If all you plan to do is main stream computing such as internet or light games, then the 640 would be the low power consumption option.

The power supply should be upgraded if you do plan to you a nice graphics card in order not to strain the one you have. You can pick an 800 watt up for like $50 bucks.
