So I have a Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 3 motherboard running an i7-4790k. I've been trying to overclock it to 4.5 GHz but my temps aren't allowing me so I dialed it back to 4.4 GHz. One problem I just found out is that the Smart Fan software on the gigabyte motherboard is controlling my fan speeds and they do not respond to the higher temps of the CPU.

The motherboard has 5 headers on it, a CPU Fan, CPU Opt Fan, Sys Fan 1, 2 and 3. I have currently 7 fans including the fan on my cooler. Using a couple of splitters I was able to make use of all the fans. However, I noticed on the Smart Fan app that only CPU Fan and CPU Opt fan was responding to the CPU temps and the other 3 headers, Sys Fans 1, 2 & 3, were responding to the GPU Temps, which weren't all that hot running at about 30C.

So my question is, is there any way to set the Sys Fan headers to respond to CPU temperatures instead of GPU temperatures? Or do I have to find another program that will control my fan speeds now?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think I have ever heard of a motherboard basing it's sys fan cooling off of a graphics card before. I'm sure it's possible I suppose but I have never heard of it. Unless there is an option in the bios or in the fan software to tell it which tempature to use then no most likely not. There may be some software out there that you can set that up with but what I would recommend first is to see what the fan curves are set at in the bios. On my Gigabyte board the normal settings for the sys fans is 40% speed until the cpu starts getting to 40c then it ramps up to 100% at 80c from there. I would start there first before messing around with fan controlling software or a fan controller.
