Hi everyone,

I'm doing some research to build a new PC. I was looking at the Gigabyte Z490I AORUS ULTRA motherboard.
And noticed in the spec the following:
  1. Intel® Core™ i9/i7 processors:
    Support for DDR4 5000(O.C.)/4933(O.C.)/4800(O.C.)/ 4700(O.C.)/ 4600(O.C.)/ 4500(O.C.)/ 4400(O.C.)/ 4300(O.C.)/4266(O.C.) / 4133(O.C.) / 4000(O.C.) / 3866(O.C.) / 3800(O.C.) / 3733(O.C.) / 3666(O.C.) / 3600(O.C.) / 3466(O.C.) / 3400(O.C.) / 3333(O.C.) / 3300(O.C.) / 3200(O.C.) / 3000(O.C.) / 2933 / 2800 / 2666 / 2400 / 2133 MHz memory modules
  2. Intel® Core™ i5/i3/Pentium®/Celeron® processors:
Support for DDR4 2666/2400/2133 MHz memory modules

With i5 CPUs it only supports 2666MHz for the RAM?! If that's right, does it have a big impact on perf if the RAM is running at 2666MHz rather than 3200 or 3600?
Or am I misunderstanding it?

Thanks

Intel CPU's are not nearly as dependant on memory speed as AMD's are.
You'd probably not notice a difference in usage between 2666 and 3200. It would take a benchmark to show you the difference.

But you still should be able to enable XMP and select the speed of your ram. I think they don't show the OC speeds because non-k i3's & i5's are only allowed go go up a few hundred mhz above their stock ram speed (or something like that)

So it would be great to get a confirmation of the limit of OC for the -k i5 CPUs. Because it's not worth spending more money for a 3600Mhz memory kit if you CPU can only take 2666 :-/
Looking at the Intel i5 10600K (the CPU I'm planning to buy) spec page, it says DDR4-2666: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...0600k-processor-12m-cache-up-to-4-80-ghz.html

Not sure I can achieve more without doing some advanced tuning
