By default, Windows will use the index when searching to give you faster search results. The search index only includes your selected locations. These locations can be filtered for what file types, file properties, and file contents you want yo be indexed. Here are the steps that you can follow to rebuild search index in Windows 10:

  1. Open the Control Panel (icons view), click/tap on the Indexing Options icon, and close the Control Panel.
  2. Click/tap on the Advanced button.
  3. In the Index Settings tab, click/tap on the Rebuild button under Troubleshooting.
  4. Click/tap on OK to confirm.
  5. Indexing will now be in progress.
  6. When indexing has completed, click/tap on Close.

if its on different PC, do you use the same user logon on all of them?
If so, try turning off account backup on all devices and clear the roaming profile= https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...3-279a-329926955708#WindowsVersion=Windows_10

I tried the indexing rebuild, but nothing changed after completion or reboot.

I am signed into a Microsoft Account, but I have always turned off the option to sync settings. On my MS account, I cleared the stored settings as well. After a reboot, no change.

Thanks for the ideas. It is all normal on the Administrator user...

The problem does not just happen with Paint 3D or 3D Viewer though, it is every app from the Microsoft Store. Anything that I installed via an installer displays normally in the search. This system has a fresh install of W10 from about 9 days ago now with a freshly created bootable media from the W10 Media Creation Tool. At first everything was fine, but after a day or two it changed. Essentially the same thing happens with every PC that I use my Microsoft login for.

I also tried deleting C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\IconCache.db and ran a sfc /scannow... Not sure why, but Paint 3D is displaying normally, but nothing else is.

i would check every device does have backup turned off. I know you said it is, but just one of them with the settings might be enough to pollute them all.

I don't know how you would fix it if its something on the shops end.

This might help.

if you do the registry part, back it up first - https://neosmart.net/wiki/backup-restore-registry/
I double-checked and it is turned off for both systems. I’ll have to try following the video later. I think I tried something similar before, but I’ll try it just in case.
