I have OCZ premier 1gb dual channel kit (2x512mb 2.5-3-3-7) in my system. I am thinking of upgrading to 2gb as the prices on ddr memory have fallen a bit lately. I've read that if I decide to get another indentical kit I won't be able to run at 1t command rate only 2t. Is this true? And if so is it a big performance issue ?

Thx !

I'm finding this diff to explain for some reason.

I'm going to assume you understand the page file/swap file. When a computer is low on ram it pages to the hard drive. Since you are adding more ram, less paging should occur therefore IF going to 2T slows your system, not have to write to page as much will speed it back up(if you understand)

Basic Answer: no difference.

I'm assuming your running an AMD system if so it will slow you down slightly going from 1t to 2t but if your running vista or some of the games that are ram hungry such as battlefield 2 type games with large maps the extra gig of ram will more than make up for the timings. Also if you multitask a lot with several open applications the extra ram would be good. In the end the benefits far outweight the cons.

Thx for the replies. Yes I do understand about paging/swap file I've been working in IT for 12 years now  . I just wanted to better understand the implications of 1t vs. 2t. I've read a couple of articles about this after I posted and on most benchmarks comparing the two there seems to be a difference but not by much. I think I'll wait a week or two to see if ddr prices will come down more and if so I may go with 2x1gb sticks.
