OK, this has been going on for too long

I have a Radeon sapphire, which cost me about $150. The reviews were spectacular and all the benchmark videos were perfect for my needs. However, I am having some issues.

After installing the card, all of it's drivers, removing the old drivers etc... I got 25 fps on GTA IV. Which was still playable, but not what i was expecting. Now, I get 5fps in the menus, which just makes the game unplayable. However, youtube videos, and online graphics load perfectly.

On the benchmark test for GTA IV, i got .5 fps. I know this shouldn't happen as I got 25fps before.

I have been trying to fix his for a month, and i am getting very frustrated.

Please help.

What video card is it and what cpu do you have and how much memory? It could be something as simple as you needing to Download and install The software called DDU "Display Driver Uninstaller" and use it to boot into safe mode then remove all drivers using the recommended setting then reboot into windows and install a fresh set of the latest video card drivers.

AMD Radeon Rx 460
16gb RAM
Intel Dual core i5 @3.00 Ghz
120gb SSD
1TB USB drive
MSI Z4 MOBO

First if all, thanks for the quick reply. I have not tried the DDU, but that could help.
I did try some software that removed my old drivers, but I did not boot into safe mode or anything. ould you elaborate on the DDU?

I'm a total noob at computers. So you'll have to explain stuff in a simple way 😉

Download it then extract if to your desktop. Once you have done that start the software. There will be a option to boot into safe mode. Once you have done that there is a recommended option of removing drivers then rebooting into windows regularly. Once in windows again download the latest amd drivers and install them. Report back after that

use this

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

it will tell you the info we need

run it and post back with your cpu and mainboard model

he never states what his old performance was at all

for all we know he was running off the mobo's built it or some such

after installing the current card he says he goes from 5 fps in menus to 25 in game?

dude is not clear...

OK, it takes like 10 minutes to open links and to scroll or whatever now, im starting to think cpu might be to blame. Core i5 4690k Haswell. I'm so frustrated with this build, nothing has worked after three years.

The Core i5 4690k is a decent performer still.

If everything is healthy with your system (it obviously isn't) then you shouldn't have any issues with general Windows use at all with that CPU.

Are you overclocking the CPU? I notice it is a k series.

Let us know what Afterburner is logging during games. (CPU usage might give us a clue.)

By the sounds of it so far, it might be either driver related or a problem with Windows itself.

What version of Windows are you running?

Not overclocking, and running windows 8.1

Hmmm. I'm reminded of a similar problem a friend had with a machine running Windows 8.1. It took 4 minutes to load even Excel! I was advising her at distance, so in the end it was quite difficult, but we managed to crack it finally by using System Restore.

It's a long shot, but if you have System Restore active, it might be worth a shot in going back to a previous restore point. But ofc try to restore the system to a restore point in time when the PC was running 'normally' - so about a month ago maybe. Your personal files will be unaffected, but any software installed since that date will not be present after the restore. The first thing to do after that is run 'Display Driver Uninstaller' and then install the latest version of Crimson (16.11.4).

If this doesn't help, then we can try looking at other things. But the general slowness of Windows is suggesting a general OS/software problem.
