Hello everyone.I want to upgrade my cpu to pair it with a R9 270. I have a phenom ii x 965 overclocked at 3.8ghz and i dont really play very demanding games. So i just want a good upgrade that will be able to handle newer games just in case.

Solution
CPU i5 4690K
mobo for SLI Asus Z97-A or Asrock Z97 Extreme 4
mobo without SLI : Asrock Z97 Killer

or
CPU Xeon 1231 V3 or i5 4690
mobo Asrock H97 Pro4

Hmmm you got my attention now.
I knew they have great loading speed but i didnt think they would help with such thing as textures. And i do run a heavily modded skyrim with many HQ textures.
Dammit you going to make me change plans now 😛

No stuttering and no "random" drops. I have 15-20 fps drops in certain spots and places with MANY npc's,in really heavy combats and things like that but 90% of the time its running nice and smooth at 60 fps. I just noticed that often my gpu is not running at 90-99% so i thought that my cpu might holding it back thats why i wanted to upgrade.

fair enough.

Not quite the case in open world games, there is a very noticeable hitch each time you load the particular area, not a loading screen.
With tons of mods this hitch is much worse.

With an ssd it's completely seamless, no hitch.

This happens often enough that an ssd is recommended.

Well im not expecting to magically "fix" fps issues or make games run faster but games like skyrim kinda load data as you go so dont you think that maybe an ssd can really improve performance? I mean things like those 1 sec spikes when you make a turn or something.

for MMO games , use fast Internet connection . Mine is 100Mb/s- i am downloading at 30-85Mb/s . i am using a laptop

Skyrim isn't an mmo.

It's a massive open world single player game.
It has spectacular mod support so you can get improved textures, meshes, effects etc, that heavily tax your computer, and in many cases the mere loading screens can take several minutes. It loads the environment on the fly since it's too large to load it all at a loading screen, ssd loads this so much faster that it is quite noticeable.

A quick google search shows many threads with many people saying the same.

ssd Samsung 840 EVO is the best option . The smart-buy is Crucial MX100

@manez
Btw , i am not playing Skyrim but maybe a bit more beautiful games .

A modded Skyrim with a nice ENB can be way more beautifull than most current games, trust me on that 😉
Yes it cannot be compared with the latest 4k games but you would be surprised.
Thanks anyway im going to take a look on that ssd.

965 is still quality gaming CPU from AMD. Only reason I personally see upgrading my 965 is so I can get the 3.0 PCI slots... not that it matters much but Athlon X4 860K is what I want. Its good one to go with if you want the 3.0 PCI slots that the FM2+ M/B offers. You could upgrade to FX or FM2+ and see some minor gains.

Intel is best way to go... I love AMD and it erks me to say it but its common sense now days. Intel uses less power and produces more power for gaming and its a lot more stable.
