Solution

No, if you created a google account and gave chrome access to save your passwords, then they should all be saved on the cloud and regardless of what device you are using, as long as you are signed in on your account you should have all of your history, passwords, settings, etc.

i had the same problem and what worked for me with Windows 10 is i turned off 'Tablet mode', and have the standard desktop, Chrome worked immediately after i did that and has been working for the last 2 weeks no problem.

Hello
If you are not able to open google chrome by clicking on chrome icon, your windows might be corrupted.
Please uninstall and reinstall your windows.
I checked all the solutions posted at google chrome but didn't work. Finally i uninstalled and reinstalled my windows 7.
Now its working

Before I had trouble opening Chrome, I noticed several times that Chrome was v-e-r-y slow in responding, like maybe I had lost my internet connection. After a week of that, I couldn't even open Chrome. Also, I have been having trouble with File Explorer being slow to display a directory, sometimes with that green bar that sweeps across the top of the pane v-e-r-y slowly. I didn't think these things were even related until I stumbled across this:
Press Windows + X, then open the "Command Prompt (ADMIN)"
Type: netsh winsock reset
hit "enter"
Restart the computer
This solved all my problems with Chrome and the miserable green bar in File Explorer.
Note: you must be using the ADMIN command prompt for this to work. What you're doing is resetting the TCPIP stack. Somehow it's getting corrupted.

Myself, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times...wasn't working, then tried a simple fix that I've had to use on several programs in Windows 10. Set all Chrome shortcuts and program file (Program Files (x86)/Google/Chrome/Application) to "Run as Administrator" on the Compatibility Tab. I've had to do this to several non-functioning programs in Windows 10, especially Outlook.

Also, does anyone know anything about Google Public DNS? I noticed this under adapter properties for TCP/IPv6 with the addresses 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844. To set to Obtain DNS Automatically, open Network and Sharing Center, click Change Adapter Settings on left menu, right click on adapter and select Properties. Select Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and Properties. If these addresses are shown under "use the following DNS addresses", select obtain automatically and click OK. Not sure if this needs a restart. So after these 3 adjustments, Google seems to be back to normal and back at normal speed:
1. winsock reset as suggested by others
2. set all shortcuts to run as administrator
3. get rid of Google Public DNS (if want it back, can find those addresses at Wikipedia)

Found a different way to solve this - my chrome was also non responsive 2 days after installing it on windows 10 (fresh).
If you install IRST (and select cached drive mode - which does the policy change for you) or update the drive policy directly in Device Manager "Turn off windows write cache buffer flushing" then chrome hangs with white screens, even on settings / about screen.
Untick the box if you ticked it (or installed IRST and let it do it for you) and reboot - chrome now works!

I have been having the same problem for some time. I just tried BOG95's solution, above, and and all good on first warm reboot. Will post update as to whether or not this has cured problem, or just made it go away for a day or three.

I've just started having the same problem. Tried reinstalling, but now it won't reinstall either. Looks like major issues on their end and will have to use another browser until I can download it again 🙁

Thank you so much, that worked for me :bounce:

If it won't open, try to end chrome's task by going to task manager and end task chrome.
soz my english is not exellent.. its my second language

I am of the absolute opinion that Windows 10 is purposely blocking Chrome. It only opens with adminstrator on my machine. It is also very likely that Microsoft has found a selective method to do it so that some experience it and some not. I cannot be sure. But I suspect Microsoft is behind it via its updates.

Hi all, this is a messy workaround but go into the TASK MANAGER and delete anything Google Chrome. It has always worked for me. Now if I can get it to remember my login password.

Hi,
Just tried all the solutions listed on here but still getting the same problem in that Chrome will not open as I get an error message telling my 'Network connection was changed' and I'm left with a blank page!

Thankfully using Firefox I don't get that 'error' so can post this message and hope someone can help.

Or do we have to wait until Google pull their finger out, while if they do I also hope that they fix the Update 'problem' as trying that also generates an 'error 3' message!

Maybe we should club together and send them a bottle of Concentrated Weedkiller to remove the Bugs and get a decent browser!

I found a solution that worked for me after trying many failed attempts.
I believe the issue is related to a recent major Windows 10 update. Some people uninstalled them and that did the trick for them. I personally prefer not to mess with that. By experience, uninstalling Windows updates has often caused me problems.

The solution: download and install "Spybot Anti-Beacon" and click the button "immunize" (there is also a portable version). I am often reluctant to install 3rd party software in order to solve OS related issues. I had this installed after following Jerry's instructions in this video. I trust Jerry not only because he used to work for Microsoft, but because he is also an accomplished tech-savy person who owns a very successful YouTube channel.

What this program does is to block some Windows 10 features which are meant to track your activity and personal data and send it to Microsoft. It is well known that even after disabling data collection and monitoring options in privacy settings, a windows update will most likely turn some back on again. If you are concerned about

Actually I have had this program installed for months and I run it every now and again. But it didn't cross my mind to do it even though my windows run a major update about a week ago. Just now, after some people mentioning windows updates, that ringed a bell and I run it again. Instantly after that, Chrome tabs no longer freeze. Everything is working now =)

If anyone with more knowledge could discover what is it that Spybot Anti-Beacon specifically does, then a standalone procedure could be found.

I hope this helps to anyone with the same problem!

cheers,

Joanan

Hi antron79,

While Chrome will now open but I cannot get it updated as I keep getting this 'error message' :
Update check failed to start (error code 4: 0x80070005---system level)
I have also tried downloading a separate new version of Chrome and installing that but that also failed, while the Chrome 'Team' are not providing any assistance.

I have installed 'Spybot Anti Beacon' to see if it will stop my laptop also trying to 'Update One Drive' which locks the machine up until I go into Task Manager and 'disable' the One Drive running process.

This keeps happening even though I have been through the steps to 'completely uninstall One Drive' which works for around 24 hours and then I get the 'Updating & Security' message at login!

I don't need or want One Drive but it is proving to be very difficult to get rid of it totally in Win10 Home!

EXACT same symptoms, and your cure worked! Now what is causing the stack corruption I wonder?

Right click on chrome shortcut
Click on "open file location" or
goto "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application".
Here you will find a file 'master_preferences', delete that file.
Your data won't be affected.

worked for me.

Sarah_22,

Which two updates did you ininstall?

Thanks

Raks

I have had similar problems trying to instal Chrome to a new device on WIndows 10. It works for one day, then refuses to open. I uninstalled and reinstalled. It refuses to open, then after about 10 minutes (once I have opened Microsoft Edge) it opens but then fails to open basic pages such as my yahoo account and I get "aw snap".

I have installed the spybot and it is working fine now, and will have to wait to see about updates or even whether it works tomorrow.

I suppose MS have put something in causing this. They would be better off improving their own products than doing that. When it is working, Chrome connects much more quickly than Microsoft Edge, and Google is a much better search engine than Bing.

I just did this and it didn't find anything wrong. But my Google Chrome is working again.
