I can see how you would be puzzled by the conversation here, when you believe this:

I, too, am amazed at the stupidity of people on the internet. The quote above is a shining example of exactly that.

Couple of facts:
- Android existed BEFORE iOS
- Apple hasn't created a single thing in it's entire existence, they've simply modified existing concepts
- All smartphone OS's can be considered "spyware" as every single one of them tracks usage in the exact same manner.
- If you ask Apple, they will tell you that they are currently selling FIVE smartphones (iPhone 4 for entry-level, iPhone 4S for mid-range, and iPhone 5 (16GB, 32GB, 64GB) for high end. All those iPhones compete against different Android phone price-points. This is not an interpretation, this is how Apple themselves markets their products.

You may want to double-check your "facts".

First of all, hardly anyone in history has created something original, it has always been an evolutionary process in technology and software - come on, surely you would know that?!
e.g. Edison didn't invent the light bulb, rather before him several people came up with the idea, and in particular, Joseph Swan and Warren Rue.

Secondly, everything Google current has isn't original (except Search, sort of), all technology developed by others and later acquired by Google.

Android Inc was originally developing software for dumb-phones, until Eric Scmidth of Google (who was on the board of Apple) started to pass everything back to Google.
Google secretly funded Android, and later acquired the company and completely re-shaped Android to look pretty much identical to iOS.
This is the reason Steve Jobs called it a stolen product... actually there's more to that but this is getting too long.

This is one key piece of data Google was missing - location and associated of people to each other, thus Android would be an excellent spyware tool.

Haven't you ever wondered why everything from Google is free, including Android?!

Similarly, Chrome is a stolen product, developed originally by KDE, massively enhanced by Apple who opened up AppleWebKit, and Google comes along, takes the code with minimal effort and re-skins Safari to create Chrome.

I just wanted to clarify also, I'm not an "Apple fanboy" - I don't actually own anything Apple.

But I realise when and where credit is due.

Similarly, I give massive credit to Google for Search and in some ways Maps, something they've taken from many other companies and enhanced it to create such an excellent product.

But with Google Android, sorry, it's a complete rip-off of iOS and Apple's work in usability, simplicity, and precision tech.
By the way, even iOS was an evolution of other work, specifically the team who developed OSX (Scott Forstall).

...wow...thanks for the history lesson. Now can you explain what ANY OF THAT has to do with my post?! You allude to my facts not being accurate, then go on to talk about the beginnings of the Android operating system. Nothing in your reply is a rebuttal to any of the claims I made.

So am I to assume you agree with me? Or that you just don't have a suitable counter-argument?

They have Chrome OS. They would really like you to do your computing in the cloud, but that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense for most desktop users.

I guess it boils down to - how would Google make money off of it?

Hi Guys first post here so bear with me please. After reading several comments left on this and many other forums, I have come to the conclusion that as many of you esteemed gentlemen and ladies have stated, is that it boils down to personal preference.
As such i respect what Pro Iphone owners feel about their devices.
Speaking as a person who owns and has owned many android phones, but at the same time my wife has owned an Iphone 4 of which I had to tweak to her liking i.e ringtones, music, pictures etc.
I have to admit at this stage, that several years ago when i first started looking at smart phones that the then first Iphone caught my eye and i lusted for it.
However at that time i couldn't afford this as then thought premium device. If that was not so, then my current view could well have been different,although i seriously doubt it. Trying to look at it objectively and after having several heated debates with Iphone owners my personal feelings are as follows
1.'yes the Iphone would deffinately be a premium device if the screen was not so darned small.
2. The software of the device was totally different i.e anything open sourced'
3. Connectivity to a PC or laptop via anything other than that horrible ITUNES!
of course should point 2 have been open sourced then point 3 would be mute anyway as as soon as you connect to a pc you would have instant mass storage support.
In conclusion I would say that the only time, i would consider buying an Iphone, is when they stretch out the size of screen and include an open sourced rom, that is not controlling the buyer of such an expensive piece of equipment stating what you are not allowed to do with your purchase.
It makes little difference who wins out. As there will always be the please keep my phone safe and i dont care if i can do all the special things that android phones does people and to these people I say good for you. And there will always be the look i bought it i want to be able to do what i want to my piece of equipment people. And also to these people i say good for you. Choice wins that is the winner 😉

Hi Dimar, yes I have to agree, it would be awesome. but in a way, there are some platforms out there, that are open sourced and very similar to Android such as totally free Linux' great UBUNTU or MINT 15 these can be downloaded onto a Live disc and you can try it without actually loading onto your hard drive. I have been using both for some time now and they are fast taking over as my preferred platforms. you can even download certain software that allows you to run your favorite Windows software on them.
incidentally UBUNTU are currently developing a smartphone mobile and ROM that runs this platform. I think the future is going to be interesting and possibly there will be many more open sourced mobile and PC platforms.
To butcher a well known catchphrase: "The future is bright, the future OS open sourced" lol

Because DirectX is a proprietary API, it belongs to Microsoft. Until all games support an open alternative, like OpenGL or some other API, we're stuck with Windows for the majority of games out there.
