Tell me how many people did we save by dropping those two bombs. On top of that if we would have been in Iraq before saddam gassed the kurds maybe we could have saved a few more people. So tell me those wars didnt need to happens and I can think of a few million souls that would tell you otherwise...
 
If China really wants to keep the rest of the world out, I'd love to see the rest of the world keep China out!

Ok, so if someone attacks america or one of its allies we are to just sit there and not fight back?

Lets take a deeper look at the truth since the truth does hurt.

Japan fired first shots at Pearl Harbor. We dropped two presents for them at Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Lesson leared by Japan.

North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam. We were asked to help fight. We did not just show up shooting the place up like a bunch of islamic terrorist.

Iraq 1, Iraq invaded Kuwait. Kuwait asked for help. Saddam's army got slapped around like a bitch.

Afghanistan, home to most islamic terrorist groups. Americans have been directly attacked by Islamic terrorists since the 70s. They should be thankful that we did not decide to invade earlier when they still had Russia's attention.

Iraq 2, maybe you don't remember but Saddam tried to have Bush Sr. killed while Jr. was in office. He failed, but an attack on the Presidential family is easily grounds for retaliation.

BTW, you want to know who killed the most innocents. I nominate Germany.

Sure, but that sort of thing takes time. You can't just move from a closed factory to a full production one in a day. It would take months, years, perhaps decades to replace what the US gets from China.
 
pei-chan the problem is. IT'S TRUE! I mean come on. I'm not gonna even argue if you don't think it is. As it's pointless.

At mkyam how about doing some research on the crap you spew. Better yet how about just keeping your mouth shut. Bringing up the atomic bomb? Really? They would've dropped it on us if they could've. It ended the war that was costing people their lifes on both sides.

Now back to the article google isn't doing any of this to get praise from us. Their simply doing it as a smart business decision. Nothing to do with humanity. Just cash like all other businesses.

So just because it's unintentional means that it's ok that innocent people died? I'm sorry, but I think that is a load of bs. People are people no matter where they are from and their lives matter. American lives are no more important than Iraqi's, Chinese, Mexican, etc. And the Atom bomb was definitely NOT justified! How can you say that killing millions of innocent people was justified?! Just because they were Japanese doesn't mean their lives don't count. America is probably the most violent nation in the world and say it's ok because it's in the name of "freedom." The U.S. was founded on violence(Revolutionary War, Westward expansionism, civil war, etc.) and it will mostly likely be destroyed in a very violent fashion. "if you live by the sword you will die by the sword"

I'm sure this will be voted down because I don't take a pro-American stance and because I feel that America is in the wrong *gasp*!

Actually neither target was a military target they were, per the military civilian targets. There were much better strategic targets. I don't have an issue with it either way, its war there are no rules. Rules are for the losers and the winner write the history. The funny part is after the bombing the Japanese pretty much signed the treaty that was already on the table and it was not unconditional, by any means there spiritual leader was never tried. So they weren’t as signification as we have been lead to believe in saving lives or hastening the end of the war.

Actually they were military targets. Nagasaki was an prime manufacturing facility for the Japanese Imperial Navy. One of the primary contract holders at the Nagasaki Shipyards was Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Nagasaki was actually a backup target. The primary target was covered in fog and a visual of the target could not be acquired. Since Nagasaki resided in a valley the surrounding communities were saved because the blast was redirected. The plutonium bomb "Fat Man" was much more powerful that its uranium counterpart "Little Boy".

Hiroshima was headquarters to two Japanese armies as well as being a military shipping supply key city as well as housing some of the largest stores of military equipment. An extremely viable target.

I read through most of the posts but none of you guys thought about one reason that Google may want to pull out from China – Google is losing the market share fast in China, and just wants to find an excuse to pull out. Name one US company in the history that want to pull out of a country because of the moral reason? Business is business, business exists for only one reason – making money; anything other than that is just propaganda.

In China, there are Baidu, Sohu, and others that are chocking Google. A lot of you guys sound just like Rush Limbaugh – ChiComming you brain and don’t even visit China once and see what's really going on over there. While Rush could still boost your ego with his entertainment talent, he is making millions of $ and you have already owed China about a trillion $. If you think American have a higher moral standard, Boeing, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, and Warren Edward Buffett would have had been out of China long time ago.
 
I give kudos to Google for being one of the first few Fortune 500 companies to stand up to the Communist Chinese regime. Let's hope they go through this, and perhaps still work to subvert them.

Also, I'd advise that people perhaps shift the subject away from US war and especially discussion of atomic bombs... It's pretty clear that just about none of you are actually educated enough to discuss the subject; the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, like much of the rest of the end of Japanese theatre of WW2, was tangled in some pretty dense political webs, with both sides having to make decisions based on incomplete information.

China doesn't really buy US goods; that's the point. What people forget is that FAR more worrying than the US government deficits are the US TRADE deficits; we wind up importing far more than we export. The only thing China really "buys" from the US is debt, and even that's tapered off a lot; their share is only some 10% and shrinking, and Japan's on track to pass them by mid-summer. (and Japan's already owned by foreign governments, with a debt-to-GDP ratio of >200%)

Sounds like you've been feed a lot of propaganda or you seriously have NO understanding of human history -- "people" as you like to call them. Give you a hint, human history has lasted more than 234 years (the current US history duration).

But back to Google, it's a business decision -- google are in the business of providing information, they are NOT in the censorship business.

As far as blocking China, I do it all the time on my servers ... it's standard security procedures to block all IP's from China if one's business has NO business with China. IT departments do this all the time. In fact, if you want a good recent list of ALL the IP's to block used by those countries you can find it here: http://www.parkansky.com/china.htm

This is just business, it's nothing anyone needs to get personal about -- if you monitor server activity, it's really easy to determine origin of 99% of server attacks. Why are most attacks coming from China, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea?? I don't know why, but apparently the governing bodies of the countries don't seem to be too terribly interested in why most attacks originate from their countries.

Too bad Google will leave, but that's the nature of human history.

On a side note of human history, not a single governing body has successfully maintained a society with censorship, they have ALL failed time and again in WORLD history of the human kind. China, Taliban, you name your poison, they will fail, they always have failed ... but we humans seem to be very stubborn when it comes to learning from our HUMAN history.

Germany takes third place, with Hitler's 12,000,000 civilians killed in WWII.

USSR comes in second, with 23,000,000 civilians killed during Stalin's purges and the Holodomor in Ukraine.

China takes a commanding lead as the grand prize winner; Mao killed between 49,000,000 and 78,000,000 of his own people.

Nixon was a small-time petty-theft crook in comparison to them. 70,000 Vietnamese civilians, while an atrocity, is next to nothing in comparison to the Triad of Evil in Germany, USSR, and China.

-And that's just in the 20th century.

As a Chinese language student and a Japanese speaker, I must say that it takes some willpower to not add my opinion (seeing as I have a lot of experience with both cultures). Instead, I shall subscribe to the doctrine below.
