Hello and thank you for reading as I could REALLY use some help right now... so I just got a Intel i7-4790k cpu and I put it into my current pc switching out my old i5-4430. When I started the pc up, everything turned on in the computer, but neither my monitor or my mouse and keyboard detected my pc. I made sure to update the bios before installing the cpu and definitely installed it right even with some new thermal paste. After waiting a few minutes I swapped the cpu back to my 4430 and it booted and worked instantly. My motherboard is the H81I-Plus and it says the 4790k is compatible so i’m not too sure what the issue could be besides something to do with the cpu.. Oh and I also tried clearing the CMOS to reset my BIOS and that didn’t work either.. ANY ATTEMPT AT HELPING WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED as I am pretty much all out of juice at this point..

I can't think of anything that hasn't already been said, but where did you get the CPU? Can you return it? If not, maybe test it in another computer. If you don't have one, you could always send it to me and I'll test it for you.

Whats your current bios version?

Make sure you have version 2001 or greater

Edit 2: If you did the USB flashback method did you rename your bios file "H81IPLUS.CAP"?

Also, make sure your USB drive is fat32 format and have the bios file on the root of the USB stick.

I updated my BIOS a few days earlier to version 2305 (the newest one) using a FAT32 usb stick and the EZ Flash 2 utility on the BIOS. It seemed to work and everything was and still is up and running currently with that BIOS and this CPU (i5-4430) but when I switch to the i7 and reboot, the fans turn on and the LED on the motherboard turns on, but it wont connect to my monitor or anything I plug into it..

Have you tried resetting the bios with the jumper pins? when switching a CPU sometimes requires a full reset of the CMOS.

Make sure the jumper pins are in the correct normal position when booting with the 4790k.

If this or above methods don't work than the CPU most likely be dead.

I will try this out but do I reset the BIOS with the jumper pins with my old cpu installed and then switch it out after? or do I install the new i7 first and then reset the BIOS with the jumper pins?

try it with the 4790k, also remove the GPU and any external devices such as USBs.

Also keep pressing the key to get into the bios on first boot, and update the bios from there.

I tried it and it didn't work, also btw thankyou so much for the help, I've been at this all day with multiple forum threads on various websites and you have definitely given me tons more information than anywhere else so I commend you sir.

I realized that I did not change the BIOS update name to "H81IPLUS.CAP " so I will do that now and see if that works, if not, I will try a CMOS reset but this time with EVERYTHING unplugged from the motherboard. If you have any more feedback or suggestions I will be watching from my phone lol and if not and all these methods don't work, I will declare this CPU officially dead XD
