I have a sapphire radeon 7870 and i'm using the dvi and hdmi on it,(one going to my tv and the other my wacom tablet) but i always want to use the display port to connect my monitor .

The way i have my monitor set up is that it's a vga from the monitor to a vga plugged in a dvi converter, so my question is: what kinda of display port to dvi would I need? I see alot that say Not Bidirectional so i'm assuming it only sends signal one way but what would I look for if i'm putting the display port from my gpu to the dvi end of my monitor cable?

no.

use one of the DVI outputs to go to the VGA (the DVI that has the 4-pin output), and use a DisplayPort to DVI adaptor to connect to a DVI monitor/screen/etc. you can't easily go from DisplayPort to VGA since one is purely digital and the other is purely analog - you'd need a dedicated expensive converter. kind of like the one that's already inside the card for that one DVI output.
