Question GPU coil whine causing terrible stutter and FPS drops ?

I bought a ibuypower prebuilt pc almost 2 years ago and today I updated my drivers and couldn’t even play any games with the amount of stuttering going on. I tried limiting the fps and that didn’t help at all. Is there any fix for this or should I play it safe and use my warranty before it expires in 2 months?

Wonder if any of your ram timings are off? 16-19-19-39 at 1.35v? What drivers did you update? Sometimes a driver just isn't as good as the previous one, if the bios update doesn't help it might be worth a try to roll back a driver and see what happens.

Hey so the only drivers I updated recently were my Gpu drivers and then I started having issues. Sorry If I reply late i had to watch a video on Updating my bios.

Update: So updating the bios stopped the stutter/ fps drops but I’m still hearing a buzzing sound coming from the Pc but only while in-game? It’s not too loud but it is getting annoying.

you might need to use a straw or rolled up piece of paper to listen down to figure out where that humming is coming from.

unless its coil whine? though thats more a high pitch squeel.

could be fans I guess. I can't hear anything in my pc apart from its fans. Might need to clean them maybe?

I’ll try that later today and give you an update. Thanks for the reply.

Coil whine is an interesting issue. It's more or less universal, as in every card has it, some obviously more noticeable than others. It also usually rears it's ugly head when the GPU is getting worked very hard, some times this can be resolved by limiting or capping frame rates, or changing graphics settings.

Sometimes it's related to the PSU as well. Certain PSU designs may make coil whine worse than others.

So I did what you said with the rolled up paper and it sounds like it’s coming from the Gpu. I tested some games and everything higher than 60 fps is making the noise..

it doesn't hurt card, just turn speakers up or use headphones while playing.

You could return card and next one could do exactly the same.

I know my model is capable of coil whine but I don't think I get it. Mainly as I restrict fps to 143 so as to not cause screen tearing on my 144hz monitor. If I let it just go to max, I might hear it.
