Gpu failure, removed card but still 6 beeps on startup

Had my Dell xps studio 8100 shut off unexpectedly. Saw a short burst of a flame followed by smoke shoot out of the back of the tower. Got the 6 beeps on startup indicating a gpu failure.
Sure enough, there's a hole burnt in the gpu chip (evga gtx 970) so I removed it, tried switching to on board graphics to retrieve files, but I'm still getting the 6 beeps and nothing but black screen.
Is my motherboard screwed too?
