[SOLVED] GPU jumps to 95c-99c

Hi, hope someone can help me.

I’m using Asus gtx1060 6gb OC on a 144hz monitor for almost 5 years with no problem, until recently, I reformatted my pc. I changed my cpu and gpu’s stock thermal paste to Arctic mx-4, installed essential softwares, drivers, and updates.

On idle it’s around 40c-50c, but would sometimes spike to 70c. But once I run a game or a benchmark tester, it will automatically and constantly be around 95c-99c, fans are going 100%.

I already tried:
  1. switching between diff. ports and monitors
  2. Uninstall driver (using DDU) and installing again
  3. Reapplying thermal paste

Anything that can fix this? Or is this a sign of a dead gpu? But its odd because it’s working fine until just now.

Thank you for your help 😀

Solution
the paste could just be that less effective than the original pads.
or now the layer could be either too thin or too thick and not providing the proper heat transfer.

possibly you could contact ASUS and get replacement original thermal pads to try.
you've voided any warranty that may have still been in effect, but they still may be cool about it and offer help.

have you verified that the fans are all still functioning?
Hi Sembrandt.

Can you please list the entire system specs?

Did you have overheating issues before doing the change?

Maybe you didn't put the GPU back together properly.

Hi,

Here are the specs:
Board: MS-7982
CPU: i7-6700
Display: acer kg251q
RAM: 16gb hyperX
GPU: Asus strix 1060 6gb OC
HDD: 2tb WD blue
PSU: Thermaltake 600w

No I did not encountered this overheating issue before, not that I’m aware of.
