GPU Performance on PCIe 4.0 vs 5.0 Motherboard

I am planning of building a gaming PC with a motherboard that supports PCIe 5.0 16x for the GPU. But, I would like to know if the future RTX 7000 series GPU would have a negligible performance loss on a mother board with PCIe 4.0? If the performance loss would likely be about 1%, then I prefer to save money and just buy a PCIe 4.0 16x motherboard instead.

I don't have an answer for that. Likely in the next few years

They aren't using all the bandwidth on 4 yet, expect once they feel limited there they will jump to 5.

One reason for this decision is likely due to the fact that PCIe 5.0 is still a relatively new technology and is not yet widely adopted. PCIe 4.0, on the other hand, has been around for several years and is already widely used in many computer systems. Sticking with PCIe 4.0 allows these companies to maintain compatibility with a broader range of systems, without requiring users to upgrade their motherboards.

there is only 1 PCIe 5 GPU now. It was released in China but its not from any of the 3 big makers - https://www.tomshardware.com/news/chinese-homebred-pcie-50-gaming-gpu-benchmarks-shared

I would get a pcie 5 motherboard if only as its newer and supports newer things. You can use faster nvme if nothing else.
