GPU too powerful for CPU

Im having issues with my pc performance fluctuating. Ive been told my GTX 560ti is too powerful for my Pentium D 940 CPU. It makes the CPU work to hard to match the GPU. Is there a way to reduce the performance of the GPU in order to reduce the CPU load?

No need to. The GPUs performance is already compromised. I do strongly reccomend you upgrade that CPU though

That graphics card will get severely bottlenecked by the CPU , the CPU would be unable to keep up.
I'd rather recommend a complete upgrade : upgrade mobo , ram and cpu.

The CPU is severely bottlenecking the video card. Either upgrade to at least an i3 CPU / new board / RAM, which is a more expensive upgrade, or exchange the GTX 560 Ti for a GT 620.

You can use everything else from your old computer. It's nothing fancy. Just a simple upgrade for less money than buying a whole new computer. If you can afford more then by all means get more.
