Is $350 a good deal for a phantom gaming d oc 6800 would be upgrading from a 2070super mostly 1080p which is not cutting it anymore 8gb vram. Also can't really go over max 400$

My specs 5700x3d
32gb ram
2tb nvme ssd
650psu

6800 may be a mining card, and its core is easily broken due to thermal expansion. Do be careful.
Where have you seen or heard this? I have seen many used mining GPUs and very few of them had issues let alone the extremely specific issue you described. Any time a graphics card heats up due to use the GPU thermally expands. Are you saying that mining cards often break due to this?

It's widely known in China that navi21 often break itself due to fierce thermal expand-contract, which is common among 6950xt/6900xt/6800xt/6800.
It's recommended to leave the PC idle for a while after playing instead of directly shut down the PC.
It's not related to mining, all the navi21 GPUs have this issue。
navi22 and lower GPUs don't meet this problem.
I'm suprised that this widely known&accepted opinion has no popularity outside China. If you want some extra info, search “核心鼓包” and you'll see every result points to 68/6900xt.

No, this problem still exists after 2023. The victim cards often get broken after a week's idle, then the GPU dies.
A new card producing company called Zephyr offers 2-year warranty for “核心鼓包”, providing exchanging service for these cards. According to Zephyr, their 6800/6900 GPUs are from a bankrupted AIB Soolfoals, not second-handed. Why do Zephyr provide this warranty? Perhaps they found this problem in their labs.

I have two friends that I can think of immediately that have their PCs on for weeks at a time with a 6800 XT, and a 6900XT, neither of their cards have had any issues for years now. Do you have any more information about this I can read anywhere?

Yes, I come up with a completely exploded 6800xt this week when viewing Chiphell.
This is the post: https://www.chiphell.com/thread-2674364-1-1.html
I haven't make efforts to gather the posts, but I do viewed a lot in the past 1 year. Search the Chinese keyword I mentioned before, and you can see a lot.

Another info source is the famous repair engineers on Bilibili, all of them feel easy to fix 68/6900xt's problem, because:

They found that broken 68/6900xt often has a broken GPU, and the dead GPU's shape is often bend(the centre extends out like a fat man's stomach). If the GPU is dead, it is not fixable; if it's a non-GPU error, they can fix it easily without re-planting the GPU, which is often applied to repair a NVIFIA card.
