Hi new to posting here but heres my problem, i have a mid range rig

including a gtx 1660 super, ive been gaming on it for about 2 years with pretty heavy usage, when i was unemployed i was gaming atleast 6 hours a day everyday, never had any issues but now my gpu usage plummets from around 98%-100% to 0%-2% while gaming this cause my whole system to freeze up and stutter, do i need a new gpu? feel free to ask any questions and ill respond the best i can, thanks again

2x8GB Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4 2666MHz

gtx 1660 super
700w power sup
Bro idk, do a userbenchmark. Me personally I have an issue with just always low gpu usage about 30-45 on my 1660ti mobile and i7-10750h, anyways do a userbenchark and link ur results.

have tried factory resetting a fresh install of both windows 10 and 11 the above video was filmed on 10, after some of my own testing i dont experience drops after a restart and if the game is the only thing running, went about 45 mins without a drop in gpu usage, ill continue to run these benchmarks ect and update as i go, thanks again for everyone's help

A gpu has no reason to drop usage and clocks while in-game unless CPU can't feed the necessary fps so it slows down. As you can clearly see in the video, two things happen at that time. GPU drops usage AND CPU goes from 3860MHz to 539MHz with it's usage increasing.

That drop from CPU usually is thermal or power related. Since thermals seem ok from the video, it should be power. It might be some other things but let's explore one thing at a time.

What is your exact make and model of your PSU? Please don't just answer with brand and wattage, model is essential.

Run a userbenchmark and post the link to the results here.

hey man, i've been experiencing more or less the exact same thing with GOTG.
On other games like CP 2077 and AC Origins its only a little dip in GPU usage and not noticeable, but with GOTG its a full on drop from 98% down to 2% and then back up again. Game stutters like crazy and is basically unplayable.
The fix i found - just like you - was to simply restart the machine. Everything ran smoothly after that - until the next time i booted up the machine and then needed to restart again of course.
None of my temps ever get nasty and i dont have any other issues that would indicate bad RAM.
Strangest thing

thanks for the info, could you give me the name of a good benchmarking tool so i can get all the info you need?

I asked for a specific benchmark which is called UserBenchmark . You run it after you have restarted the PC and let it idle for 5 mins. Nothing else open.
It doesn't matter the scores as it's not reliable but it helps identifying issues and also list your specs except for PSU. It's useful for someone who knows what to look for. Paste the LINK of the results here.

Still waiting on make and model of PSU.

Start your own thread as you clearly have a completely different system. Include EXACT make and model of PSU.
