Yes it can - what's the rest of your system though? It's not worth forking out on a GTX580 when the rest of your system can't keep up with it. It's LGA775 so I presume Core2 Duo/Quad and you wouldn't want more than a GTX560 Ti to max that out.A quad, maybe a GTX570.
 
clearly your cpu will bottleneck the card. from my personal experience E7500 at it's stock clock even bottleneck GTX460. what is the exact brand/model for your psu? some cheap/generic psu won't be able to power up GTX580 but for your system it is more reasonable to get GTX560 or below even if you play at 1080p. for the RAM part get another 2GB. to have at least 4GB of RAM is quite common today (but you're going to need 64-bit OS to utilize all available RAM).
