Graphic Card

I am considering a new graphic card and wanted to get a few thoughts. I have read so much on this topic my head may explode soon but I am still not clear on what best suites my need/wants. I have an older card:

ATI Radeon 9950/x1050 128

I have been happy with this card until the past year or so. I believe I have surpassed its abilities when gaming. I tend to get lag (freeze up or choppy movement). I do not want to spend much to up grade and was thinking about the Sparkle GeForce 9600GT Video Card. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

no more then 100 bucks and do you mean my monitor resolution setting? 1680 x 1050 is the specs on it but I think I have it set at 1024x768 ( I am cloning a disk so I cannot check atm)
