[SOLVED] Graphics card comparisons and what I've been told

So I can currently get an 8GB RX 590 for $299AUD in the current Black Friday sales, and while considering this I called the place for their opinion. They told me that it would be fine for playing modern games (not so much an issue as I play most games on PS4), but stated that it is older architecture (as it's multiple refreshes of older cards), they said that the next best thing price-wise would be a 1660 Ti and from a different vendor I can get one between $409-$429AUD depending on brand. I've read the 590 has GDDR5 RAM while the 1660 Ti is GDDR6 RAM, is there much difference?

I looked on HW Compare and the 1660 Ti allegedly only outperforms the 590 in Pixel Rate (by approx 53%), otherwise the 590 is better in both Texel Rate (approx 47% better) and Memory Bandwidth (approx 13% better).

I'm a bit out of touch with graphics card and stuff so I'm not entirely sure how to interpret these numbers and meanings.

The next up from this would be something like an RTX 2060 which currently jumps to the price of $479AUD (on sale currently, normally around $539) or a Radeon RX 5700 for $539-549AUD (stock cooler vs MSI aftermarket cooler).

I'm pretty much just refreshing my system at the moment, as I said I don't need anything super fantastic as I play most newer games on my PS4. I've recently gotten a Ryzen 5 2600 with a B450 Aorus Elite board, and 16GB of 2400MHz DDR4 RAM. This new GPU would be refreshing a stock cooler XFX R9 290 model (I believe 4GB VRAM).

I think I'd at least want the card to be capable of displaying nicely on a 144Hz screen (unsure if doing so requires a special card or not), but at the moment I just have some basic 1080p screens at I'd assume 60, maybe max 75Hz, refresh rate, (one 24"and the other 21.5") which I guess I wouldn't mind upgrading one to a 27"and possibly 1440p at some point in the future.

Good morning,

There is difference between GDDR5 and GDDR6 you can read all the info about it here

Going with the 1660Ti would be good, you would have 5% less botlleneck then with the 590 from what info I got about it.

Card should be able to indeed run nicely on 144Hz screen, basically 144Hz means that it will refresh itself 144times per second If I am not wrong, that mean you will have smoother gameplay or whatever you will be doing, you will be able to feel the difference, you don't need some kind of special GPU for it.

So even though somewhere like HWCompare reckons the 590 is better in a few ways, the 1660Ti is still better value? The less power consumption is actually preferable for me too actually so it would be better

And I suppose would a 2060 be a better investment for an extra $50 than a 1660Ti?
