I am about to build a new machine using some old bits from current unit. (xp1900/soltek75/512M/creative Geforce4 Ti4600). new machine will be built on asus a7n8x-e/xp3200/400fsb/1GB pc3200. my machine is mostly used for solid modelling, occasional dvd watching etc. Can I use my current graphics card (AGP4X) with the asus mobo? it is a good card and I dont want to bang out lots for a new one!
any comments would be greatly appreciated,
thanks, Nick

heya leviathan;

To answer your question specifically, here is a chart to help you understand graphics cards and their signaling voltage in reguards to their respective AGP standard.

Agp 1.0 = 3.3v
Agp 2.0 = 1.5v
Agp 3.0 = 0.89v & 1.5v

your Geforce 4 Ti4600 is a AGP 2.0 standard card, and will work in either a AGP 2, or AGP 3 slot.

Also here is a little tibit of information that isnt commonly known.
Agp 3.0 is capable of being configured in SLI, unfortunately manufactures chose not to deploy this configuration, and waited until PCIe, to take advantage of SLI, hey sometimes even the big hitters strike out...

<Archer> Cant this thing go any faster, I thought this was a Warp 5 engine?

<Trip> Yeah, on paper...

Yeah, no probs. That's an nForce chipset mobo and I ran my old G4 Ti4200 on one similar to (NF7-S) it for months. In fact, I have that 4200 on a Shuttle nForce mobo right now.

Thankyou all for your answers, especially this one. I have now gone ahead with my order:ASUS A7N8X-X/2x512/my old TI 4400 graphics card/XP3200 400fsb/40Gb scsi/eheim 1048/maze4 shd/morris marina heater matrix with 2 120mm papst 90cfm fans. H600A case with 300W quiet psu (undecided who's as yet).
