The R9 380x is the better choice, it outperforms the gtx 960 in most games, although there is nvidia optimized games out there so i wont say the gtx 960 goes under the r9 380x in all scenarios.
Anyhow, 4gb vram is recommended for todays games, and the gtx 960 4gb isnt usable with the low memory bit of 186bit i belive. The r9 380x however can handle it with its 256bit.
btw i am picking the 6700k and GIGABYTE UD5 TH, for video editing and ocasional gaming...is it good? or should i increase budget and switch to the 5820k + A MOTHERBOARD SIMILAR TO THE UD5H (DONT WANT TO COMPROMISE ON MOTHERBOARD) ?
I currently run the 5820K for gaming and streaming and then also editing the recorded material. Having gone from a 3770K to this is can report the difference being MARKED...
Now of course we are talking about a newer processor aswell, however single core performance isn't really much greater on the 5820K (stock it is even clocked lower maybe?).
However the extra cores, bigger cache and essentially 11 threads are just HUGE when editing/rendering. If you can stretch to that and it is your main use for the PC, I can ONLY recommend it. The x99 platform and 2011-3 socket are really great and intel has stuck to them for a while and maturing it to waht will culminate in the Broadwell-E later this year.
To add my two cents to the GPU debate...I think though the 960 is a good choice for the casual 1080p gamer, a 380x will really provide extra oomph and certainly outperform anything Nvidia in that price range (Nvidia "loyalist" speaking)
