Hello,

Managed to pick up an Optiplex 990 SFF on the cheap (free) to replace my old laptop. Pretty sure this is the right one: https://www.cnet.com/products/dell-optiplex-990-sff-core-i7-2600-3-4-ghz-4-gb-500-gb-english-12833603120740/specs/. Unfortunately, since it was used for office/business purposes, it still only has the integrated graphics card, which I can only assume is terrible. So, I'd like to pick up a decent graphics card for it. Doesn't have to be top of the line. As I'm inexperienced with these things I'm unsure of where to start, especially considering the size restrictions posed by the SFF case. That link mentions the AMD Radeon HD 6350, so I assume that would fit, but I'm looking for something with a bit more oomf. If anyone has any suggestions/is able to point me in a good direction I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks

That system has a couple limitations:

1) It will only accept low-profile/half-height cards. About the best low profile card you're going to find might be a GT750.
2) It only has a 240 watt power supply. You might be able to upgrade that to a form-factor fitting 400 watt PSU, but that's an extra cost.

Newegg Graphic Cards - Also, it looks like the best cards for that system, after the PSU upgrade, would be the Radeon RX 550/560 or the Geforce GT 1050/1050Ti.

Thanks for the prompt replies. I'll look into that power supply upgrade and those graphics cards. Much appreciated.

Thanks for that; good to know that the power shouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately the GeForce GTX 1050 is well beyond my budget, at least in the link you provided there. Would the next step down be the 1030? Though there seem to be several 1050 ti variants that are much cheaper. The sheer variety is a bit overwhelming.

You need low profile card with included low profile brackets, not all GTX 1050TI have brackets in the box.
Hierarchy in your budget looks approximately like this, from expensive to cheap.
GTX 1050TI -> GTX 1050 -> RX 560 (basically equal to GTX 1050) -> RX 460 -> RX 550 -> GT 1030

So, what is MAX you can spend on GPU, including taxes and shipping?
