So to begin I will explain my situation. I stopped playing games for a couple months and then when I returned my computer was over heating. I checked what it was and my GPU was 70C when not even running anything. So I checked all my connections and dusted everything and it all did not help.

So unless anyone has any other ideas I want to replace my graphics card. So either suggestions on a new graphics card that will work well with my PC/maybe future proof my pc just a little bit or suggestions on how to get my temp down.

Windows 7 32bit

Intel Core duo 3.00GHz

Dell 500W

4GB Ram

ATI Radeon HD 4800 series

is my current rig.

Thanks a lot :)

Thanks. So looking at gpus I think Radeon HD 7850 is the one I want to get. Is it worth extra 15 dollars for 2gb instead of 1gb? What would be difference?

yes get 2GB of ram if you can afford it. some games can use more then 1GB of ram.

Spending an extra $20 gets you two times the on-board memory of the 1 GB Radeon HD 7850. Although you won't see higher frame rates from that second gigabyte most of the time, the GDDR5 does make it possible to enable higher levels of detail and anti-aliasing at 1080p.

If you want to get the temp down on your HD4800 in the mean time, pull it out

2 things normally happen

1. Full of dust, which you can blow out in reverse to normal air flow
2. Thermal paste between GPU and Heatsink has gone dry and near useless, clean and replace with new thermal paste.

Those 2 things will help keep it going

make sure the fans are working.
