Currently i am running 2x Nvidia geforce gtx 770 2gb in sli, i was wondering if i should stay put or upgrade to 1 single gtx 970 graphics card. Or would this be a pointless trade off. which do you think i would ultimately get better performance out of?

Solution
Your dual 770s whip a single 970...

EDIT: If you play on 1080p, however I can see how 2GB x2 can be a really limiting factor in some games

You would experience a loss overall, absolutely not worth it.

My advice would be to hold out until Black Friday (November) or Xmas and get a deal on either a new Polaris/Pascal card or the reduced price 390x/FuryX/980Ti cards, as both green and red are launching new gpu generations this year.

You have more than you think right now man, patience is a virtue ;-)

Someone asked this question before. My opinion is that if the SLI'd 770's aren't letting you play the games you want, then upgrade. If they're still serviceable, then hold out until something better comes along. You'll get more VRAM with a 970, in certain games you're going to see an improvement from that. But from a horsepower perspective I think 2x 770's is more or less equal to a 980.

We're all infected.

I have a friend who has a single 770 and he is itching to upgrade but deep down doesn't have to as nothing he plays is hindered much

I reckon unfortunately it's never been a good time to buy in April/May as the new launches have been happening from June onwards.

I agree with the other chap though, if you were suffering you might achieve a higher price for ur current cards now and will find a fully matured 9xx card won't be a hell of a lot less powerful than the new stuff coming Q3

Well, if you're going to sell your 770s on eBay or something, I just sold my 970 on there for 260. And there are 970s on my local Craigslist for 225. While it would probably be a downgrade in most games, the 970 is plenty fast @1080p and you could pocket $100+ if you find a good deal on one.
