Graphics card question

My P.C has this:

The bottom 2 ports in that picture are taken. The top 2 are free. I have an unused HP vs17 monitor with what I believe is a VGA port on it. I'd like to hook it up as my 3rd monitor. Can you share with me the type of cord I need?

You need an active HDMI to VGA adapter, a passive one won't work

I already got an adapter that looks identical to that one, but it doesn't work. It looks right, but doesn't fit. It loosely fits in the port. Hopefully you know what I'm talking about, right? I'm guessing I got the wrong adapter.
