You would be better off with a new graphics card. The monitor you have is great for games now it runs at a native 1080p resolution which is just fine and dandy and your graphics card would be a more seen upgrade over something like getting a higher resolution display which would cost more then a graphics card ex., a 1440p or 1600p display. So.... that being said you bought a new pc was it prebuilt or was it something you build sorry was it a Store bought hp, dell, gateway, or more of a custom computer build if you follow. Without knowing the other components its hard to look at and give an opinion on graphics.

Things I'd like to know condensed
1. Did you build the computer
2. Was it store bought
3. What are the components within the...

It's not a home build, I bought it from FutureShop and probably the best way to show you the components is to link it:

The reason I ask is I have $225 from NewEgg from a gift receipt. I think the power supply is only 400W as well, which means I would have to upgrade that too for a new graphics card, right?

Okay so its a store bought computer its a HP. Why don't you do a couple of things for me.

Take off your side panel and see if....

1. Your PCI expansion slots are low profile or normal profile I've seen normal profile cases from hp ship with low profile bracket slots.

2. And check your power supply please tell me your wattage on the power supply if there is a company name as well. Also take note of the 12v number 22 for example.

Okay given that your configuration you will more then likely be bound to a low profile card which your selection becomes more and more slim. The best card you can obtain would be a 7750 from AMD. I'll link a benchmark (keep in mind that things may be slightly better with new drivers since the release of this benchmark also keep in mind these benchmarks are ran with different systems that are more then likely better then yours, use this as a vantage point) I'm doing this so you can see if this is performance you are okay with or if you want something else.

since it is a pre built machine...it would always be better to upgrade your psu as well....most pre built machines comes with a psu that has just about enough power to run all the fitted components.
get a decent 550w psu and a gtx650ti or a 7850...for occasional gamers this should be enough.

Hmm it's not bad, probably wouldn't be able to run new games like Crysis 3 right? Then I just need to figure out to do with the other $100 :\ but if that's the best I can get then short of buying a new computer that's the best! Thanks for your help I really appreciate it.

No you wouldn't be running Crysis 3 with all its glory no. The short end of it is I would suggest maybe buying a new case if you want a more powerful graphics card to fit in your case. He purchased a 400 watt power supply from cooler master may have been the best power supply to buy but its surely better then the one that manufactures slip into there retail computers.

Oh damn, I like the idea of a noise reducing case.. for some reason I'm obsessed with quiet lately.

ONE LAST QUESTION!! You've been a huge help, thank you.

Can you suggest a power supply from NewEgg to go with it? So that, if I do decide one day to get a new graphics card and upgrade my CPU I will have that option?

The Fractal R4 is great because it comes with sound dampening padding which will absorb sound there is padding at the top and the side and if I'm not mistaken the front to. Yea just looked it does on the front as well :) Also comes with removeable drive bays for longer GPU's

IF you look up the HX series they are also good the new ones are 80+ Gold which means a higher level of efficiency. The New AX are 80+ Platinum although at the price point I have a really hard time recommending them.

We get some artificial points, certain amounts of points leads to ranks. You can select a Best Answer which gives many points to that person.

But yeah, mostly its just that were helping others. I remember when I first tried to figure out computers and it was daunting to say the least. Didn't discover this community for a long while and when I did it just immediately accelerated my learning of everything as everything can be explained without techno-jargon.
Anyway, came out with a much better build because I asked the community to review my rig, so I guess I'v just been giving back ever since. Also its my excuse to be productive while not being productive, you become addicted to the forums after a while :lol:

Too busy helping people make gaming rigs that you don't game on the awesome gaming rig that you built. I can sympathize.
Iv got the Witcher 2, Batman: Arkham City, Mark of the Ninja and a bit of Far Cry 3 left to play, yet here I am 😛
Steam sales will be the death of all our wallets (though this years sales weren't that great IMO). A good game to get is Natural Selection 2 and its on sale for $10 right now, very good co-operative online shooter. Logged 60hrs into it and still play regularly.

Yep, GOTY edition through Steam for $7.50. I had already played through it on my PS3, but the deal was too good to pass up and comes with all the DLC, as well as PC graphics (30FPS when flying around, my rig doesn't even dip that low in Crysis 2!)
Think Skyrim is about as cheap as its going to get, at least through Steam anyway. Though lucky for you that retail keys can be re-deemed through Steam, so its possible you can buy it from a local store. Though would be wary of 2nd hand copies, the key may already be used.

True but this summer it is possible the price will drop in price with a sale that is that is what I'm hoping for.

With Batman I had the game I bought a copy. Then I got a copy with a 560Ti I bought then I had another copy from the Samsung 830 I have but I gave that away. I didn't have the DLC's it just made sense money wise to get the sale from steam over buying each DLC separately
