Hello,

This is my first post! :)

I have a problem with my graphics card when i play games or watch dvd's where it will either crash or play with lines or fuzzy pixels! It's fine when doing nothing high powered.

I think I've found the problem (fingers crossed) I think my power supply doesn't have enough amps to run at high processing times?

This is my power supply

this is my graphics card

I'm also connecting it via one black 6 pin connectors

I think i read somewhere that my graphics card needs 40a but i'm not sure if my power supply can do that?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Rick

600w PSU should be plenty to run that card. I'm not a wiz at this just yet so the only other thing I can suggest is making sure you have updated drivers.

*edit*

You should try running some stress tests on the vid.card. It could possibly be overheating.

There are loads of possibilities which is why this is the hardest problem I've had by far!

Tried reinstalling drivers from internet, using disc drivers, I've installed all old nvidia drivers, still got the same problem. Put the fan at 100% permanent, that doesn't seem to work either!

Don't really know what i'm doing with parts and stress tests!!

If your card is a HIS HD 5750 iCooler IV 1GB, why have you installed old Nvidia drivers?

apologies! meant uninstalled!

Although I'm still unsure about the power supply to the graphics card. It only crashes if it's under pressure such as video or games

Hmm... but what about the amps on the 12v rail? apparently it needs 40a, but i don't think my power supply does this?

Also, I've only got it plugged into one 6-pin coming straight from the power supply, is this connected correctly?

70w = 5.84A Whoever told you that the 5750 needs 40A should be taken behind the building and shot.

hi,

from looking at the link you supplied for your power supply it shows that you have 2 12volt rails that run at 18 amps each, which means it can support up to 216 Watts per rail, also i noticed that your power supply is from a unbranded company which usually means that they say its 600 watts but really is say 450 watts or lower, its a common problem now days with unbranded power supplys, if the power supply dont have over current or over wattage protection it means that it wont shut down when stressed to its limits or even over them and could be the cause of your problems as u suspected, also if the power supply is extremely hot while under load thats a sign its being over worked and could burn out or in extreme cases set alight lol

try buying a 850+ watt branded power supply, say corsair, coolermaster, antec, ocz's, something that u know is gonna be rated at what they say it is, and if u dont go for a branded power supply make sure u go a few hundred watts higher then what u really need to make sure that what its really rated at is enough,

hope this helps,

Thanks for your replies! found these links;

ok so if it isn't the power, i'm really stumped as to what it is...

I have Windows 7 Professional (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601)
2.50 gigahertz Intel Core2 Quad Q9300
3072 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory
Slot 'DIMM0' has 1024 MB
Slot 'DIMM1' has 1024 MB
Slot 'DIMM2' has 1024 MB
ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series [Display adapter]
Board: Packard Bell BV MS-7380 1.1
Bus Clock: 333 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. V1.0B3 02/19/2008

I've uploaded a video of the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTNhzd0YmPw
If it doesn't do that it crashes, or blue screens! If I close the dvd, the problem persists until i reboot.

Thanks for all the helps so far, getting really frustrated with this problem!!

:pfff: There is no need for an 850w PSU in this case and whilst FSP might not be a top tier manufacturer their PSU's usually perform within spec.

It may not have anything to do with the problem but running three sticks of RAM in single channel mode is probably slower than running two sticks in dual channel.
