What might cause a CPU die to turn green in a laptop.
I encountered this on an HP Pavilion DV5000 with a Turion 64.
I have another laptop with the same processor and that one isn't green, so I'm wondering if it has to do with a short or blown cap or something like that?
And I don't mean the green board part of the CPU, I mean the actual piece of silicon is close to the same shade of green as my profile picture.

Hmm, not sure exactly what you mean. Sharing pictures would be helpful.

Not all AMD CPUs, even of the same line were manufactured or packaged in the same place.

Given the iridescent nature of silicon chip in the raw, and the various metals deposited you can get quite a few colors depending on the angle you look at it.

Substrate color also varies between batches. Sometimes yellow, green, or brown.

I don't currently have any pictures, and I can't take any right now because I'm at school.
It takes awhile to take apart the computer so I'll probably have pictures around 3:30-4:00PM.
