GT 420 safe overclock

I'm trying to overclock my new GT 420 (EVGA), and I want to make sure I don't brick it.
I'm using "Precision" software (Came with the driver disk) and I have options for fan, core clock, shader clock, and memory clock.
Right now, everything's at default.
I've heard that overclocking doesn't do much, because the card isn't meant for gaming. Regardless, I'd like to push out enough power to play Dead Island on High. I've got it on Balanced right now, 30-45 FPS.
I'm planning on playing for long periods of time, so please post suggestions after taking that into account.

So, what I want to know is, what's the highest I can get this thing to go without over-stressing it.

as far as how far you get to in an OC; your mileage will vary. just bump up the core/shader (linked) small increments and test each time. i really wouldn't mess with the memory. and do not expect much.

I kinda' just ignored the OC Scanner before, because it required a sign-up. But, I decided it wasn't a coincidence that I got sent there twice.
I've discovered that adjusting the core clock and/or shader clock does little to nothing on the stress tests, so I decided to just leave it at default.
Another question; is it healthy to have my card at 40 degrees (Celsius)? Because, if I'm not wrong, that converts to about 100 degrees Fahrenheit. This is without any OC.

40c is very low, not too low just low, like good low.

Thanks again loonian. I was just worried. 100 degrees is pretty hot, and my room is relatively cool (bout 62^)
amuffin, how did you get 850 MHz stable? Can you please tell me the stats you set it to?

i go for 100% then start backing down slowly . 90% - 85% -80% 75% . . .until i find a "load" temp i am comfortable with. my 550ti i like no higher than 65c but i'll let it hit 70c.
