Yo was good people. Been having problems with gta v, Extreme fps drops. i googled benchmarks on my card GTX 960 and it got 60 fps lock. My got 30-50 fps, no matter the resolution or settings the fps stayed the same, even switching from 1080 to 1440 didnt effect the frame rate at all. My gpu stays around 60% and my cpu stays around 80%. i have a i5 750 GTX 960 and 12 gigs of ram. honestly i am so mad im about to just put a hammer though my pc. plz help.

Solution
You have a cpu bottleneck, as you have noticed changing the resolution or settings wont do much of anything for your frame times. That processor is about 8 years old I would say 30-50fps in a cpu heavy game like gta v is pretty respctable, if you want to play gta v 60fps locked you will need something more powerful.

Would i be able to overclock my cpu ? it is a 95w cpu and my board is 95 watts

What motherboard and power supply do you have? And are you using the stock intel cooler?

i am using the intel h57 chipset, One of those old ones from 2010. i am using an insignia 520w power supply. Also i have the cooler master hyper T2

Older components used more power, so they ran hotter. This will limit overclocking potential. Not to mention you'd want a motherboard made with overclocking in mind. Insignia isn't exactly a top PSU brand. This is my way of saying that any gains you get from overclocking will ultimately be minimal. I'd advise you to keep on the lookout for a Sandy Bridge era quad core, that would be enough to get you up to where you want to be and it should be relatively cheap.

edit: To clarify, you'd need the CPU and motherboard, then you could just transfer over your other components.

i was looking at another post, it said that it is a bottle neck if the gpu is like 50% and the cpu is maxed out, my cpu is not maxed out. it hovers around 80-90

If you can change resolution and framerate does not change, that's further evidence it's your CPU. Let me ask you this, is there any time in the game that CPU use is low such as 40% and GPU use is 90 or 100%? No, right? That's because the CPU is always in use. In your case maybe MSI Afterburner isn't at 100% all the time but CPU use is still very high, so it's basically the same thing.

Would overclocking my gpu help ?

if i were to overclock my cpu how much of an overclock would i need ? also would a i7 860 work ? their only 100 bucks on ebay and thats pretty much my budget.

Hey, ive been doing some testing, And ive noticed something weird. i expected bf4 mutliplayer to run bad, As it did. very bad frame drops. 60 gpu usage, But i loaded up singleplayer, i expected that to run bad. but. it ran well, too well actually. I was getting 99 gpu usage and no bottleneck. I know some games are cpu intensive and some arent. But these are the same game, how is mutiplayer running so bad but singleplayer is fine ?
