Hey guys, Ive run into this issue multiple times while playing gta V. The game crashes quite often. Sometimes 20 minutes into playing, and sometimes 2 hours into playing. I get this error upon crash saying something like: Error, try to reboot or restart the game. Re-install if this message comes up again. I reinstalled the game, and my drivers, but this still keeps happening.
System Specs:
Gtx 980
i5 4670
8GB
It also says kernel gpu has stopped working (or something like that)
Im using the latest driver 350.12
Ive also noticed that disabling Nvidia TXAA in-game makes it work for longer. (could just be a coincidence.)
Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

Here is a link to the benchmark ( firestrike ) http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/7983009
and Sky Diver http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/7983415

MemTest ran for 3 hours without errors.

Yes, the Bios is now version 3.A - it used to be one step inferior.

I have not found any question/exclamation marks in device manager - I also check there often.

I have a mouse and a keyboard plugged in to my PC's front panel via USB 2.0 ports - could a bad front panel or a bad mouse/keyboard cause system freezing?

When I unpacked the motherboard, I triple checked everything and I did not see any bad pins - is it possible for pins to become bent after installing cpu or heatsink ?Didn't apply strong force to it, when I put the cpu on the socket I gave it a slight slide on the socket to see if it sits okay.

Oh, and the kingston SSD is not having the Firmware you mentioned - the Kingston Toolkit suggests me this for the current Firmware: 600ABBF0.Also it reports the SSD status "good" and life 100%.

Which parts of hardware are necessary to have photographed?

Edit:
And I have forgot to mention that I am using USB tethering from mobile for internet at the moment, the device in device manager is: LGE AndroidNet NDIS Ethernet Adapter

Pins were great.
Today, after some successfull days, the game crashed again with the driver I have lately downgraded.
Think I need t otest another Vcard...

I receive this error message when I am trying to run FurMark in fullscreen after GTA V crash process. When I reran the furmark repeadetly, the display blacked out and I had to push the reset button on PC case.

After restarting, FurMark ran perfectly in fullscreen.

After you install your graphics card driver. Open the app and search for games. once GTA V is found, optimize it. I had the same problem and I did this. GTA hasn't crashed on me since. Hope this helps

Changed Power Management setting in Nvidia control panel from adaptive to prefer max performance and underclocking the vcard to factory's speeds helped me out with gta v crashing problem.

Hope this helps for most of players.

I've got an R9 390X 8gb DDR5, 8GB RAM, 250gb ssd + 1000gb HDD. Intel Core i5 4690k etc. But sometimes when I play GTA V or black ops 2. My game just crashes. I play on highest setting with 4x msaa with 80-120 fps. But sometimes my games still crashes.
Pretty frustrating...

I have the same issue, and so does a crew member I play with. We both have GTX970's (we are the only ones in our crew that have them) and we are the only ones in the crew that deal with these crashes. Both of us have rigs that dwarf the max sys specs, so it can only be an issue with the 970 drivers. I believe the 980 is pretty close to the same card, with a few tweaks. Most likely the same drivers.

It looks to us like the Rockstar guys and the Nvidia guys need to communicate a bit.

Yup, its a gtx 980 G1 gigabyte, which is overclocked by default

I found a solution that worked for me and i think it will work for most of you too.
i had the same problem so i decided to upgrade to SLI,
but to do this i had to get a more powerful power supply
so i upgraded from an 850w to a 1250w (graphics card came much later)
with that increase in power i had no crashes at all ever
so if you get that error and your game crashes,
it is because your computer did not have a powerful enough power supply.
upgrade your computer by at least 400w and see how it works.

the old one was a Kentek 850w,
the new one is a ENERMAX SGALAXY EVO 1250W
graphics card is a geforce gtx 960 4gb

I agree, I ran 2x 780ti's on a 800watt just fine. So it has to be a failing PSU or just a flat out s*** model.

I had the same problem so what I did is I went to my computer> right clicked on all of drives and properties> disk cleanup and they will be cleaned from errors so it decreases the chances of crashing. I used to cras 15 mins into game, now 1-2 hours

My specs are
I7 3.4 GHZ
16gb ram
1gb VRAM
286.4Watt Power Supply
And Asus 5771 motherboard.
