Hey guys, this problem has been drivin me up the wall. I built a machine for my dad and he decided to upgrade to a creative ann2. He gets a constant flicker in 3d games and sometimes lock ups, d3d or opengl. The machine will run Prime95 until the cows come home, even with normal usage added on. I can't figure it out. It's really annoying, especially in Mech4. I've tried dumbin down the bios settings and runnin the stock drivers, and nothing works. Do the 7.xx nvidia drivers work any better or is it the SB Live. I need to fix this soon because I'm shipping off to boot soon and don't want to leave my dad hangin'. Any help would be much apppreciated, Thanx in advance. Here's his config,

Win 2000 Pro w/ all updates
Inwin S500 w/300watt ps (enermax 450watt on the way)
Classic Athlon 700@770(110*7) (waiting to add GFD)
GlobalWin VOS32 cooler (plate temp idle at 95F max 102F after 72 hours of prime95 - ambient 75F)
Abit KA7 W/ry bios
Creative Annihilator2 W/ fasttraxx&nvidia 6.34 ref
SB Live val w/ most recent drivers & liveware2
Creative Modem Blaster
256meg Crucial PC100 CL2 (2*128meg)
Mon - KDS VS-195e @ 70 hertz
Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3d USB w/ 3.62 sw

I've included all perphs that I think could effect performance so you can get the whole picture. Again, thanx in advance and good luck for all your projects. Long live the computer nerd!!!!

Try using the Det.3 6.31 drivers. If that does not help, try uninstalling and removing the soundcard for a test. If it still has a problem, try uninstalling the joystick and using the keyboard for a test.
Three things from my experience. First is that the 6.34 drivers weren't the best, and the 6.31 seem to work on the largest variety of systems. Second is that there are a few problems with the Live soundcard, and they only affect certain people depending on the system. Third is that USB devices don't always work in some games, and the bus itslef sometimes has an IRQ conflict with another device that it is supposed to be able to share.
BTW, if you've got DX8 installed, remove it and go back to DX7a, as many people are having problems with it.

Thanx for the quick reply Crash. I started with the 6.31 drivers first because they were supposed to be the best for the VIA chipset boards, and the flickering was even worse! The joystick isn't the prob, it flickers with or without it. I'll try taking out the Live, but thats not a fix. Dad needs to have Klipsch's runnin' clean, he loves them(I do too :}) If it is the sound card then what card could replace it and still sound as clean as the Live? Please, anybody, help me. My dads already lost most of his mind and I'm gonna follow him shortly. Thanx again.

If the soundcard is the problem, and you like brand names, I'd start looking at the Diamond MX400 or a good Guilimot card. I'll stick with my Vortex2 card, though these might also cause problems for your setup and there will never be any new drivers released.
