I am building a new PC to game at 1080p and cant wait for next gen nvidia GPUs. Will the 1060 will give 60fps ultra settings for next 2-3 years or should I get the 1070?

Solution

If you can afford the 1080, then go for it. The 1070 ti is very close to a 1080 in performance and it is cheaper. In then end, just get the best GPU you can afford, because future proof is a myth.
I don't think the 1060 will be a max settings GPU at 60fps in 3 years. In fact, the 1070 may not be able to either. Look at the previous generations GPUs, such as the 960. The 970 was released 3 years ago and can it run 1080p gaming at 60fps with max settings? No it cant and it is not even close. The 970 can run today's games at 60fps either.

With that being said, the both are really good GPUs. So I would get whichever one you can afford.

The 1180 release is right around the corner. The problem you are going to have is getting one. Inventory will be low and demand will be high. So they will go quick and they will be expensive. If the crypto craze does not return, my guess is it will be October before you can find non-reference 1180s for a reasonable price at MSRP in the wild.

The 1090 likely won't be able to run 60 FPS max settings in a few years, if you have the budget then naturally it is a better idea to go for the 1070, which is still a very reliable and powerful card. New GPUs are around the corner, although they will cost a lot for a long time. Hope this helps.

Thank you all for the replies. I play at 1080p so i dont need the 1180 level performance any way. Ideally i would like 1160 since it will suit my needs perfectly, but not sure when it will launch. So my only option seems to be 1070 or 1070ti which i think the future 1160 will match in performance.
