GTX 1060 or RX480

so basically im getting ready to pair my new fx8350 with a new gpu. I've been looking at alot of benchmarks and reading alot of reviews and everything and as far as i can honestly tell the only main difference i can tell between the two are the amount of memory and the brand. I'm tossed up between these two and not too sure which one i need\want to spend my money on, i just know i dont want to return something like this unsatisfied.

If you have a not so capable PSU you can certainly decide on the GTX 1060. It has a lower TDP compared to that of the RX 480. Should save you a bunch in your electricity bill. That aside, game benchmarks show the 1060 just barely taking the lead against the RX 480 with a 1 to 10 FPS Difference (From the video I watched).

I don't see the power intake being much of a factor. 120 watts vs 150? 30 extra watts is going to save you a bunch of money? I have seen some videos where RX480s did not consume over 100 Watts.

The power difference is so minor I don't think it should be a decision point.

At one time the GTX 1060 was thee choice however the recent improvements and Relive driver updates has made the RX480 a viable option.

I personally think both cards are relatively even at this point so its a very tough call.

I think what you need to do is write down all of your favorite games and see how many of them are optimized for Nvidia vs AMD then add them up and go with that choice.

It may simply come down to price.

If you plan to buy a new monitor I think would go with AMD to take advantage of Free Sync.

As you can see the driver updates that AMD has made over the last 6 months and brought the two cards even.

Now The GTX1060 is 2% faster on average for DX 11 and RX480 is 6% faster in DX 12 on average.

I think I would still gravitate towards Nvidia to take advantage of Gameworks and Phys-X and all the other benefits they have but its a tough call. AMD's drivers have been very good lately.

My fx8350 and rx480 work great together.

If you have a second pcie slot, adding a second rx in the future can give you an upgrade path thru crossfire and mGPU gaming. GTX1060 can't do sli.

alright guys, i think im going to go with the RX 480. Everyone is right about one thing for sure, its a tough call lol. Plus i feel like if I'm going to want to take advantage of anything it would be that i can do sli. And as far as my budget is concerned for the extra $30 on amazon i go from 3 to 4 gb. I really do appreciate everyone's quick responses, i would have said something sooner but i had no idea my thread here had answers already lol!

No I'm not too sure yet on what brand I'm going to buy, i want to get a respectable brand, but at the same time im on a budget.
