So here is my motherboard: https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Graphics-DualBIOS-Motherboard-GA-H97M-D3H/dp/B00K872FB2 ----sorry I don't know how to attach the link to a word :(. I want to know if it would be compatible with this graphics card: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IA9HLMM/ref=asc_df_B01IA9HLMM4604867?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=shopzilla0d-20&ascsubtag=shopzilla_rev_370-20;14782156474272001228510090302008005&linkCode=df0&creative=395093&creativeASIN=B01IA9HLMM ------ I also have a 500w PSU, my CPU is the intel i7 4790 and I have a 1080p 144hz monitor. My current graphics card is the Gtx 960. Also, would i need to upgrade my PSU to be able to run the Gtx 1070?

Solution
definitely consider upgrading.

you have a low quality power supply and a a system that requires a minimum 500w psu. it is generally not recommended to run your system with the minimum recommendation. you will lose efficiency, push your psu harder which will create more heat, shorten lifespan, and you take more risks with a lower quality psu like that. There are many other issues you may run into and it can be difficult to diagnose a power supply that is not powering a system properly.

I recommend anything from tier1 or tier2 with 600-650w from this link:

i'm particularly a fan of evga...

His power supply is fine are you trying to make him waist money?

i took the time to explain why it is not a good choice and told him to consider a new one.

you took the time to down vote, say its fine and not explain your opinion.

good job! welcome to the down vote club.

The gtx 1070 is power efficient its not a furry x. Power usage linked.

I know the power usage of the card and I own the power supply he linked for a low end computer of mine. I am talking about the power supply's lack of quality. Wattage is not the most important factor by any means. They are also measuring a founders edition, which consumes the least wattage compared to aftermarket models. You also didn't account for peak wattage, which that article (the first one before you updated more) does not cover. If you researched the evga 500w psu, you'd know that it has poor 12v ripple suppression.

also, during load he will be consuming:
300w load gpu (considering an aftermarket gpu and higher peaks, its safer to say 350w)
84w from the i7
10w from cpu cooler
5wx2 assuming 2 case fans
15w for a standard hdd
50w for a motherboard.

all that = 469w not including peak wattages.
the evga 500w has a maximum load of 480w

close to max wattages, not including peak wattages + the poor ripple suppression is a bad combination. poor ripple suppression means the psu is not regulating the variations in direct current well.

sure, its fine for a 960 with less consumption.

All those reviews include all the part you just listed in there calculations. They all show system power consumption.
