[SOLVED] GTX 1080Ti Black Screens & Pixels

Hi, I have an EVGA 1080Ti FTW 3 11Gb Graphic card and a few weeks ago I started to get black screens when playing games. The monitor would just go black for about 1.5 seconds.
I contacted EVGA and was told it was a faulty card so they sent me a new one. I've had it installed and now I'm getting black screens on all 3 monitors, pixels all over the place and if I use a menu the screens just keep going black.
I've put it on Youtube. Video of screen I've tried new drivers using DDU to do clean installs etc. Sometimes it works fine for 2 hours and then it's just black screens all the time just browsing the web.

Someone has said it could be the PSU but I'm not an expert. I have run CPU-Z and Hardware Monitor and the card seems to be getting 12v and 54w continuously and I don't see any abnormal temperatures.
Could it be another defective card or could it be the PSU? It's a CM 750w Supply and was purchased in late 2018.

Thanks in advance.

Solution
It popped the fuse to in the plug for the monitor. I've changed the fuse and the monitor is now powering up.
Everything is getting tested on Monday so I can only hope they find the cause.
I would test the outlet that the monitor is plugged into. If you think the outlet is fine the only other thing connected to the display is the graphics card. If the graphics card put out enough power that the cord on the monitor popped a fuse you've got a bad PSU /GPU for sure.
Could you please post a detailed component list from your computer? It would be very helpful. The list should include CPU, RAM, Motherboard manufacturer and model number, PSU manufacturer and model number, any hard drives and SSDs of any type, and computer case.

My inital impressions lead me to believe that you should start with DDU to reinstall a fresh version of current Nvidia drivers. Next I would check and see if this issue persists with only one monitor and different cables going to that monitor. I would also check and make sure that all monitors are firmly connected to their outlets, and if they are connected to a power strip to make sure that it is firmly connected to an outlet. I would also try the setup with just the computer and one monitor without using a power strip if you are using one. After all that we can diagnose from there if that doesn't solve your issue.

I am using the latest drivers after using DDU as mentioned in the first post. I've also been using only one monitor for the last 2 days.
Pixels appear before I login to windows.
I've run a hardware monitor and all temps, voltages appear to be good.

I've tried running the games in DX11 as well.

Coolermaster is not exactly the best brand PSU's. Also what exactly do you mean when you say that the pixels appear before you login to win?
When I boot up I get a login screen and I see pixels there before entering the desktop. Also the brand of PSU makes little difference and I've been using them for a number of years without any problems.
The GPU is an RMA sent from EVGA just so you're aware.

What is the exact model of your PSU from coolermaster? The brand of PSU definitely matters. Brands do not always manufacture their own PSU's. Most of them in fact just order a generic PSU from manufacturer X and slap their own label on it and sell it. Certain brands use certain manufactures that are garbage. Cooler master has some good PSUs and some really, really, bad PSUs.

Cooler Maser 750 Masterwatt. I've been using these PSU's for over 10 years in 4 different systems and never had a problem. Also I have a system builder who uses components that are reliable and I've again never had an issue with any component before.
This started about 2 months or so ago afer a windows update and an Nvidia driver update. It started on one monitor just black screening every few minutes. It got worse so EVGA RMA'd the card.
It was installed by my system builder about 9 days ago. Nvidia released a update 461.72 and that's when it started again. I spent 2 hours online with an Nvidia tech and we got it working using a driver from 2018. However about 3 hours later the game crashed and I had black screens and white and grey pixels everywhere. If I click on a menu it would generate more pixels and black screens as seen in the video I uploaded.
I really don't know what causing it as sometimes I can play for 3 hours with a problem then it just crashes and I get the same issues.

I used the hardware monitor and the results look ok but I'm not an expert.

The Masterwatts are an ok low-mid range budget option... I suppose there's some controversy on it because they use 85C Teapo Caps in these units instead of the higher quality 105C Caps - IDK, it's a bit over my head.
It appears to paint the picture of them being not very reliable for long term use.
I'm not a psu expert - I have to rely on reviews(that I can find) myself. I can't find any for this, but I did find ones for the 650 and 550w - they were ok... doesn't mean the 750w was though.

At first, I was suspecting drivers due to the initial video you posted - the flickering hurt my eyes to look at...
If you were using an AMD gpu before the 1080Ti, did you DDU(safe mode) those AMD drivers out?

Anyway, I was suspecting drivers, until you mentioned this:
white and grey pixels everywhere
Did they have a certain pattern to them: an appearance resembling 'space invaders', skull and crossbones, or a bunch of black and white squares?
If yes, that card will soon be on it's way to the gpu graveyard. It's some kind of hardware level failure.
It'll keep happening until it eventually refuses to display anything. There's no concrete fix for that as far as I know. Baking may/may not work either.

Hi Phaaze, I've never used AMD. and yes I done it in safe mode. The pixels where vertical and grey and white but thin. Although the others I've had looked as if they would be part of an image it's trying to display. This GPU is BRAND NEW From EVGA just 10 days ago.
So after doing the clean install I have run Euro Truck Sim 2 for 30 minutes without any black screens or other odd artifacts. However I'm sure if I go and do it again now it will crash and I will get the issue all over again as this has what's happened already.

I'm using a new Display Port Cable and I'm only using one monitor. I've just managed to play for over an hour without a single problem so it's really not making sense.
I've recorded it so it's uploading. I will post it when it's done.

Yeah, one of your earlier posts did say that you were running three monitors.
IF the clean install you did - according to post 12 - didn't fix the issue, then at the moment, it looks like a faulty monitor cable? Or maybe one of the video ports on the gpu are hosed.
I concur, this seems very likely. It was one of the first things I suspected. If its just a cable then that is super fortunate and cheap to rectify.

All new cables... doesn't mean you can't have a lemon among them... ANYWAY, having 3 monitors means troubleshooting will take longer:
-the gpu has 5 different video outputs
-3 monitors
... yeah...
If after all that, and you still can't reproduce the issue - we can say the clean driver install fixed it?

Morning all. Well after doing a clean install of the drivers using DDU in Safe Mode I've run the game for about 3 hours without error.
Booted this morning and so far I've not seen any artifacts, pixels or black screens. I made a short video of the gameplay.
ETS 2 Test
Even more confused now 😀

So this morning I've been in game. I done one job which took around 45 minutes and no issues.
Game froze, the CTD and when it rebooted all monitors going black and pixels have returned. The pixels look like part of whatever page/image I'm looking at.
Game Crash Log
Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION
EXE Base address: 00007FF798C60000
Fault address: 00007FFF0B6298A0 0002:000078A0 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\d3d11.dll

I'm really stuck with why this is happening. @Phaaze88 Any ideas? I've tried everything I can think of now.

The C0-5 access violation thing appears to be a generic code with many possible causes.
A few examples include: faulty memory, corrupt Windows registry files, programs that weren't properly uninstalled, incompatible/outdated device drivers...

The fault address though: d3d11 is the Direct X graphics driver.
Is it missing? Corrupt? Or is a 3rd party security app blocking it because it sees it as a threat?

1)If you have any manual overclocks active, please remove them.

2)I suggest scanning the PC for any malicious programs so they don't possibly become a problem later.
Run the AV, afterwards run Adwcleaner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/ (If you already have Malwarebytes - run that instead of Adwcleaner.)

3)Follow steps 2-5 here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...ndows-10-365e0031-36b1-6031-f804-8fd86e0ef4ca
If files are found and fixed, I want you to try and run the game. If no dice, proceed to 4.

4)Disable your 3rd party security app* - if you have one - only when running the game.
This is to see if the Direct X driver is being blocked.
*I know Defender and Malwarebytes don't block it, so you don't need to touch them, but I can't say the same of any of the others, since I haven't used them.

5)Memtest86 Home Edition(free): https://www.memtest86.com/
Do a custom 8 pass run instead of the default 4. Warning: this one takes longer the more ram that's present in the system.
I also have 32GBs, and doing 8 passes takes like 13 hours... so sleep on it, and find something else to do in the morning if you're not a long sleeper.
Just skip Windows' Memory Diagnostic as it isn't thorough enough.
The reason for this step: errors thrown out by incompatible or faulty ram have the potential to completely corrupt your OS over time, rendering it completely unusable.
I don't know if your current 32GB kit is a mixed bad or not, but I didn't want to overlook the possibility that it could be related to the error you've reported.

Thanks @Phaaze88 I really appreciate the response. I did get it working for a short while last night then it crashed and just repeated the black screens.
Also my 3rd monitor no longer powers up so I'm not sure if it's blown the fuse as I get no power light at all. Also when it crashed it deleted the game. So when I went back into Steam in said INSTALL next to the game and I was playing it 10 minutes prior.
Taking it to my system builder on Monday to get the entire thing tested. He's confident it's a faulty GPU. If it is then my biggest problem is getting them back to EVGA.
I have to pay Export Duty on them and it won't allow the receiver to pay the duty so I'm fighting with EVGA now over it.
Thanks again and I will update you on Monday when I get back.

@Phaaze88 Games uninstalling themselves sounds like a RAM / Storage device / OS issue to me... The monitor seems like its a power issue from the wall or damage was caused to it from the display cable?
What is going on with this guys computer lol?
