I think Nvidia was thinking there was gonna be a lot more physics in games due to the AGEIA hype and all that at the time and it turns out there is not yet, so now they are gonna spin it as "more future proof" once that stuff does come out...yeah, riiight !

On that note, I wish devs would use more physics, and not the goofy arcade type crap physics either.

Done! Thx!

lol yea well I tried!

Best,

I'm not sure why it is that people seem to forget that one 280 handily beats by 40% (in some tests) 2, that is *2* last generation top cards.
more than double with what is invariably extremely early beta drivers for a whole new architecture.

I think there's something broken with your expectations.

In any case so long as one card doesn't completely kill the other, its all just a question of prices.. personally I tend to believe that one 280 costs less to make than 2 4870s, and ATI will still have to sell at a lower price than the 280 because frankly if they don't pull out of the mud in this round the company may well go down the toilet... so...

Well, here's to low low prices on great hardware!

Guys...I figured it out...I know why the performance isn't so good:

Nvidia's deal with the devil was only for the 6 thru 8 series gpu's and now there will be no more "performance enhanced black magic" chipsets available..Nvidia needs a new infernal contract written in blood to cover their next products, but they are all out of fresh souls and virgins right now....lol.

For all those who are bashing the new 280 GTX don't forget you are also getting a 'free' Physic X processor as well. I know a lot of you won't care about this but nobody has mentioned it yet.

What does disappoint me is the fact that this is the first proper new video card from NVIDIA for 18 months meaning that have had 18 months to build upon and improve on the 8xxxx cards and this is the best they can come up with? 18 months for a 30% increase in performance? I remember when the NVIDIA was battling out with ATI during the 9800 XT PE / 5900 Ultra days, when those cards was launched they were around 100% faster then the previous generation and there wasn't an 18 month gap in between generations.

no one is forgetting it...the problem is that in MOST cases it,s not that much of an improvement when you consider the:

massive amount of units in there

the ridiculous 6 plus 8 plug setup

the fact that it's not beating or at least tying a gx2, which it really should considering the fact that for most setups, multiple gpu's are not as efficient due to the need to communicate across the bus/board or what have you...

people (especially myself) were hoping for a faster single card because xfire / sli is still not bug free and doesen't always work or work as well as it should. Multi gpu setups still suck as far as a lot of us are concerned and we don't want the hassle.

🙁 Trades blows with the 9800GX2 in the two reviews I've read, and based on Tom's review is WAY TOO LOUD!

edit: Wow, just looked over Anand quickly now and apart from 25x16 res it seems behind my 8800GT SLI setup more often than not. LOL, and Their Crysis performance was terrible compared to rumored/leaked benchies.

True that. Generations would come pretty fast, and with really big leaps of performance between them. Usually were 6 months or so, now its 18 months. Let the drivers mature a bit more, the price go down a bit more, and games use the APIs a little better.

I know I have been bashing the whole GTX280 launch during this thread, but honestly its more to "offend" the hype than the card it self. Lets wait and see on this one.

But i believe the Crown of Bang/Buck will change hands. And Crysis might be unbeatable. Might be badly coded ? Bah, all testing should be be done on X64 OS's and DX10.1. Anyway, enough rant cause I'm off from work in 10 minutes. yeaaaaah !!.

Yeah but free Physic X or whatever would be like saying free direct x 11 on 8800 series cards, if devs start coding for this now, and the game is done in 3 years..they'll prob be better cards for it anyhow. Maybe they should stop adding new "features and just invent ways to juice up the clock speeds to the next level again, it certainly wouldn't be slower based onj the same architecture if they bumped the core to 1 ghz and the memory to 3 w/o adding stuff.

but Tri SLI GTX 280 will beat 9800GX2 SLI.something to think about.

i personally do think GTX 280 is a remarkable achievementin its kind. as in single GPU cards. but end of the day we dont care how much GPU is inside as long as it give higher FPS then the other cards. thats all it matters. its kind of not fair to the GTX 280 to compare against 9800GX2 which has more SP and same ROP as the GTX 280. but the FPS is what we care.

PLUS 9800GX2 IS CHEAPER THEN THE MONSTER GTX 280.

lets wait until 4870 release on the 26th this month and see whats what.

shall we guys??

yes :) we shall wait and see.

Well kinda of what i was expecting. On par with the GX2 but 150+ more dollar's!

I know ive bashed this the whole time but only becuase i knew this thing would flop like a fish without water on sand.

Now with the 4850 review's ive seen it competing with the 9800gtx @ 199$ and the 4870 competing with who know's what at 299$

Nvidia gonna be hurtin!

Tri SLI 3 9800gtx's then :sol: :hello:

one thing i noticed its very funny and kind of confuse:

9800GX2 > GTX 280
GTX 260 > 9800GTX
9800GTX SLI = OR > 9800GX2
IF 4850 > 9800GTX SO GTX 260 > 4850 + 9800GTX
AND 4870>4850
IF 4870X2 > OR = 9800GX2/9800GTX SLI/GTX 280
SO RV700X2 = G92X2????
^
SO no improvement above current Gen or competetive to G200?
BUT its been said from many sources 4850 is better perform then 9800GTX.

from above then it will looks like the RV700 is not really a improvement of a New Gen should do since it will be on the same performance level as the 9800GX2.

this is what the speculation i have got and i got this conclusion and i got confused!!!><

anyone got a clearer view then me??

i think the GDDR5 version of the 4870 will really differentiate itself from the lower clock but same struction 4850 with low cost cooler.

but i will see how much performance increase it is. 10%? not great!

Anybody notice something funny with [H]'s Crysis charts? :)
http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTUxOCw0LCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

Why would 9800GTX SLI spank the 9800GX2, while running higher details and higher AF? The two solutions should be about equal in playability. http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_9800_gtx_performance_preview/page8.asp

Anand and Tom's has the 9800GX2 beat the GTX280. [H] has the GTX260 beat the GX2 and SLI 9800GTX crush the 9800GX2.

you crack me up you do

Gotta lighten it up for all of us who were hoping for better performance from this card :)

I really think calling it crap and **** is going too far it's no fx5200 or anything, but I was hoping it would tie and slightly beat the GX2s in everything.

Yeah, and for once I wanted to buy absolute stupid performance and not price/performance....

..this is a bummer as now I will go for p/p again. I'd pay 650 if this thing destroyed everything, happily, but sadly, it doesn't.

Does anyone agree with me ?

When i read the 3x 8800GTX vs 2x 9800GX2 review in many sites, in most of the games tested 3 way 8800gtx won

In GTX 280 reviews in most cases 2 9800GX2s beat 2 GTX 280

so 3 way 8800GTX is better than 3 way GTX 280 in most games?
