Hello Tom's Forum! Looking to make my first build and am trying to decide on a GPU. Been watching, looking, reviewing and reading the forum's for a good month and still have not made a decision. I keep flip flopping between a 560 TI and a 570. Help! Here's my info right now:
APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Next week or two
BUDGET RANGE: Depends, anywhere from 200-350 or so.
USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming: Starcrat 2, Civ5, Skyrim, SWTOR. I really want these things to look damn nice.
CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: Doesn't apply for a new build. Will buy a new power supply, probably corsair as they seem heavily recommended.
OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: Probably buying the ASROCK Gen 3 Extreme 3
PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg, Amazon, TigerDirect
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA
PARTS PREFERENCES: NVIDIA. Not sure why but I decided on a GTX 5XX card. I atleast made that much progress.
OVERCLOCKING: Maybe. Buying a OCed out of the box card. SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe, only if I really need to.
MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1680x1050. Low I know, but it looks pretty nice to me. I will not be buying a new monitor so I'm stuck at this resolution for the forseeable future.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Trying to decide between a GTX 560 TI and a GTX 570. Definately looking at non-reference, pre OCed cards though. Trying to decide if at my resolution (1680x1050) if the extra $100 dollars to go up to a 570 would be worth it. Here are the ones I'm looking at right now:
MSI GTX 560 TI Hawk
GigaByte 560 TI OCed
ASUS DCII 560 TI
EVGA SuperClocked 560 TI
EVGA GTX 570 Classified
Gigabyte Super Overclocked Series GTX 570
MSI Twin Frozr III OC/PE GTX 570
Questions I have:
1. First I need to decide which card type I want. Is the 560TI enough for my resolution for awhile? I am not going to buy a new monitor unless I absolutely have to, so I'm stuck at my resolution. Is the 570 better by enough that I won't have to worry about my FPS for a lot longer? Or am I going to be stuck sticking a second card in there in 12-18 months no matter which I choose? I'd really like to be able to stick with just one card for as long as possible, and then just upgrade to a current generation card in say 2013. Am I just stuck in going SLI with one of these two cards in the not so distant future?
3. Are there any good sites that actually compare benchmarks of non-reference models of cards? There are so many types of cards, I have no idea where to start in order to decide on one.
4. Which of these card types would be best? It seems the MIS cards have the best coolers, therefore would be best to Overclock. Right?
5. I think I'm leaning towards the 560 at this moment, but that can change pretty quick. .
