APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Soon

USAGE: FPS games, Single 27" Monitor, Full settings

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I am wondering if it is worth the extra $200 dollars to get the GTX580 with 3GB or get the GTX580 with 1.5GB and a few more mhz, keeping in mind that i would like the current FPS such as BF2 and Crysis 2 to run at full settings. I plan on running only 1 card.

Thank You,

+1

benchmarks have show that games do not use more than 1gb of vRAM. its useless.

a few benches of the 560 1gb versus the 2gb to give you an idea:

so yeah, just get the 1.5gb version. more than enough vRAM.

3gb ram might help in some game with 16x AA and hi res texture pack, but by then the gpu would be already a bottleneck.

i would have recommended the 3gb for $20 more. but for $200? definitely no. not at all. complete waste.

If you are only getting one card then why are you saying that there is a $200 difference between the two cards ?

EVGA 03G-P3-1584-AR GeForce GTX 580 3072MB $589.99

EVGA SuperClocked 015-P3-1582-AR GeForce GTX 580 1536MB $499.99 , rebate $20

589.99-479.99=110

So it is actually $110 difference not $200 and if it wasn't for the rebate then it would only be $90. I have the EVGA GeForce GTX 580 3072MB and I just ran BF3 at the high settings and got 63 to 65 fps at 1920x 1080p and did I need the extra ram , maybe , maybe not but it's there if it's needed. If it's not there and it's needed then your out of luck so the question is do you want to pay the extra to have it. As for as the card being superclocked it is only 25mhz over the 3gb card which you can use the Evga precision software to get that 25mhz or more. I have mine clocked at the 797mhz.

ive seen suggestions that BF3 at ultra 1920x1080 benefits with more than 1GB ram on the video card, but cant comment for myself as my cards only have 1GB each and they are in SLI so just 1GB in total available

but as above, I dont see any other titles (at present) getting better performance from having more than 1GB ram @ 1920x1080

just my tuppence

if it were me i'd likely go for a really nice quality and very overclockable 560Ti or 570 rather than the 580 but I probably havnt got the funds you have
