Thank you

but no game requires more than a HD5870 to play or max even max out, from what i've seen.
and Considering a HD7950 would likely be priced around USD 350 if Nvidia dont roll out their GT600 in same quarter, or USD300, why spend on a GX590 costing USD 750 ?

How are you talking about cards that arent even out yet? Not everyone is an ATI Fanboy... to be honest we dont even know what else his system consists of or if his power supply can handle a 590 or even if his CPU can (bottleneck)

The GTX 295 is more or less equal to a GTX 470 / 570 depending on the game and resolution, so yes, there should be quite a difference IF you are playing at 1920*1080 or above.

Make sure your powersupply can handle the new card, and in case you have not, I would suggest you overclock that 920 of yours.

your crazy if you think that the 295 will handle todays games. It was a great card but now we are talking two generations behind. If he gets the 590 he will be good for quite some time since it has two GPU's. *my response was to greghome* Not the original poster.

I did say todays games and not old games such as Crysis. Even though Crysis still puts modern cars thru the ringer why dont you get some benchmarks of Metro, Crysis 2. Also, why are you comparing it only to AMD/ATI cards, throw some Nvidia Green into those benchmarks. He said he wanted to upgrade to the 590 not the AMD card you are mentioning.

the 295 is as powerful as the HD5870 which itself is on par with the HD6950.
What games cant it handle at 1920*1080?
can u show me some?

With the HD7ks coming in Quarter 4 and the card holding well.....why buy the 590 now?
when the 7970 would beat a 5970, and the 7990 will beat anything in existent ?

lol quit trolling threads with your 7950 shenanigans.

It's not better no, but for the price. I would call it a better option. 6990 and 590 are overkill//overpriced for the 1080p range.

no a 5850 will not max out current games. I lagged a bit on Deus Ex // Metro on "med high" settings at 1080p with a 6950 during certain parts like walking through mist, or the ** MAYBE SPOILER :O ** very end of metro with climbing the tower :) when you can see all of moscow

The game itself did play fine, I mentioned when walking through mist particle during certain parts of the game I would hit a stutter. Overall on high settings the game was very fluent.

Metro was a close call, but still very fluent

Hi Guys

Thank you for all your responses, and detailed explanations. Based on the data i did buy the Gigabyte GTX 590.

I did test it and its so quiet at high temps, and most important it is (well on my pc) extremely fast. I cant imagine any game that this card cant easily handle.

I tested it on Cryisis 2 with all the upgrades and patches and in SC2, and in most of my high end games...and i can clearly see a huge difference in speed and most of all smoothness in the movie scenes and overall game speed.

Thank you guys, this site is amazing!!! :bounce:

Ciao

Me too!!! Well just fyi, in the game when the battle gets heated and its in brutal, my older gtx 295 would get stuck at certian intervals, and believe me there is no lag on my pc, 1200PSU Corsair, Core I7 920 OC to 3.6, 6Gig, Raid x 4 drives, Asus Rampage 2, 1900x 1200 27" screen...

well its either a faulty GTX 295, or something cause soon as the gtx 590 was installed its like my whole system woke up...it is so fast one of the few pleasures from buying such (and i agree) over priced card.

thanks again for your input!
