Hey all! After reading around here for months and other forums and still not finding any solution i decided to ask. My Gigabyte gtx 660 is acting weird. my computer boots up fine and i can surf the web and do other things. But when i start any program that puts load on the graphic card (such as games) the graphic cards fans start going fast and then it just blue screens. after the blue screen it says ''Please power down and connect the pci-e power cables for this graphics card''. Help?

My specs:
Card: Nvidia Geforce gtx 660 by Gigabyte
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme4
PSU: Cooler Master GX Lite 600w
Ram: 8GB
Processor: AMD FX(tm)-8320 Eight-Core Processor
Win 7 64bit

Thanks in advance!

It'd be an awesome choice! Its a Tier 1 PSU and that too the from the best company. Go for it!

Before you go...Im scared it wont fit. Current gpu is 25cm or so , this is 30,5cm. am i gonna need a new tower aswell?

My tower is : BitFenix Outlaw Svart USB 3.0

is it as good? Probably not i suppose.
Its also more expensive coming up at 500$ where i live. Do you have any tower recommendations?

I dont know the money im able to spend. I have 450$ but can probably get another 150$. the plan was never to spend this much but now that winter is coming i need a pc. If im buying a new case i want a big one that i dont have to change immidietly if i want to put water cooling or something similar. i was looking at NZXT Phantom but i dont know if its big enough for me. would be sad to spend 150$ and then have to change next year.

Maybe instead i could buy ''MSI GeForce GTX 780 3GB OC TwinFrozr Gaming-series + Borderlands -The Pre-Sequel'' i do get a game for 60$ that i actully want and its a beast card as far as ive heard?

Yes that'd be a good decision, MSI 780 have always been top notch, you'll enjoy that card :)

I hate how its alot cheaper for everything in US for us swedes.
The Sapphire card comes in at: 489$
The NZXT tower comes in at: 169$
The MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB Comes in at: 531$

The MSI 780 comes in at: 617$ , And i get a 57$ worth game for purchasing.

Seems best to just go for the 780 as i will most likely buy the game later if i get one of the other cards. Its on the same site with the 45 day money back. So ill give it a try next week. Thanks alot for the help!

Back again. Now im 100% sure its the graphic card making the noise , but still not sure its the thing causing it.
Anyways, im gonna call the site i bought the card from because i might still have a warranty on it. If not im thinking about buying:

MSI GeForce GTX 770 Gaming 2GB PhysX

Would it be a good choice? im thinking its alot less but i read its more for your money. And i thought if i need an upgrade in the future i can buy another one and sli. What do you think?

I was just thinking the 2gb version has such a good price. 390$. And if im getting the 4gb version then i could just get the 780 instead. WHy do you recommend the 4gb version for sli?

I only do 1920x1080 and will probably stay with it until 4k is widespread and i move away from home 😛

its a bit more expensive. And some benchmarks shows 770 wins. Annnnd, I dont even get borderlands : The pre-sequel. So its a big loss if i buy it 😛

Hello again. My dad and I played around with the cables and it worked for 2 days straight , making us believe it was just a bad graphic card cable. But now it shut off again, and when i restarted it. Its just as if i dont have the drivers installed for the card anymore. I can choose 1920x1080 but theres still a black box around the screen, like borders. Any comments?

All the time, Right now. When i started it up the resolution was set at 800x600 and there are black borders around, You know, Like if i dont have my drivers installed. But I can still choose 1920x1080 , the borders or box still remains though.

Test your video card in another system, only real way to rule out if the card is bad or if it's something else.

Since you are replacing a 660, you can spend about a lot less and get R9 270X. It's faster than your 660 that is having issues and is a lot cheaper than the nVidia 770 although slower than that card. But since you are basically replacing a bad card, unless you really want to upgrade, you will be just fine with the 270X.

But we cant really know, Sometimes it works for a week , sometimes it only works for 30 minutes.
