Hi people.

I recently upgraded my I7 920 system with a GTX 660 OC 2gb...changing an old 9800GT.

After the upgrade, I expected a significant fps boost in some games, but the result was really underwhelming.

For example, I had really meager improvements in World of Tanks, but I expected that because that software is notorious for being so unnecessarily hard on hardware.

What instead is really driving me crazy is the Starcraft 2 performance...I think that leaving the settings unchanged (medium-highish) at 1360x768 I got a NICE (LOL)10 FPS improvement at best compared to my old prehistoric card. And needless to say, as soon as there's some action, fps go down like crazy, even to 15-20.

All this while I read about people with my very own card and similar processors boasting to run it at steady 60+ fps.

Drivers are fully updated...I really don't know what is wrong.

Full specs are:

I7 920
Gtx 660 oc 2gb
8 Gb of ram
Win 7 64
Hard disk is a western digital, cannot remember the model
Psu is a Seasonic 620 W

Well, I tried to reinstall the latest drivers from the nvidia website...then tried to install the ones from the manufacturer website (gigabyte) but got same results.

All clean installs, used some driver sweeper program.

What else could I try beside formatting the hard drive?

That's the last thing you could do ! Sorry to say that but that is the bitter truth!

Hey, get GPU-Z software, put system under load with something like http://unigine.com/products/heaven/ then post general and sensors tab of GPU-Z, this will help people to get more details.

Also what is Your motherboard model? And how many ram sticks You have, and how they inserted into mobo?

Ok, I did some testing.

There's something weird going on...
CPU usage, even under heavy stress (20 fps), is high, but well below the maximum...there would be still plenty of power to be put to use...and I am talking about the cores who get actually used by the game, not the "idle" ones.

I even tested the game at the lowest of lows...last HOTS level still lags to unacceptable 25-30 fps in ordinary battles and barely stay at 55 with nothing on the screen.

Seriously, what is wrong with this game?
It's like a curse...probably by the time I will manage to nail the EXACT specifics it demands, you guys will be playing Starcraft 3.
